We live by the river and bringing him inside is not an option. He is 6 weeks old (Ridgeback X Mastiff)... Should I just let him tough it out ?

There are other dogs outside, and the puppy has been outside since birth and is perfectly healthy. I dont know what sort of a resort you guys keep your dogs in but mine are not lap dogs and have to live in the elements this is bred into them, they are dogs!

This puppy is going to have heartworm by the time he's 3 months old.

Yes, YOU are going to have to tough it out by bringing mom and her pup indoors. What you are doing is CRUEL.

If the mother was an "outside dog" why wasn't she spayed?

OH NO.. A 6 week old puppy cannot be living outside.. Not ever, he is too young to be away from his mom, let alone living outside all by himself.
You need to bring the poor dog in the house.. if you live in a high HW area, those mosquitos are going to kill him quickly. You should go to the vet, make sure you are getting your vaccinations and see what you can do for a heartworm preventative.
There is no good reason to buy a dog, just to live in your back yard. You buy a Bird bath to leave in the yard.. Dogs live in the house.

Are you kidding me? You go spend the day and night outside and see if YOU wanna TOUGH IT OUT! This is a 6 week old puppy that has not had a chance to even develop a proper immune system and is going to die of heartworm before he is 6 months old!
Leaving a pup out that is that young is just cruel and totally irresponsible. People like you should not be allowed to have dogs.

This is severe. You are not to keep a pup at 6 weeks old outside and unattended. and you did not mention a mother or litter mates which means he has no one with him. In Virginia this is Animal abuse and neglect. A 6 week old pup is like a 6 week old human baby, if he dies, then what?
And if you are living in a tent, make room, or find a suitable home for him, that will take care of his problem which is you at this moment.

You have a six week old puppy, that should still be with his mom and littermates, outside? Bringing him indoors is not an option? This is a tiny puppy. I can get over some situations of dogs being outdoors, but a tiny six week old puppy? This makes me really sad.

Whats wrong with putting him in a closed in laundry???

In time he wont mess in there, very rarely, if you train him right

later you could put in a doggie door so he can come & go

(what did you call him, duke?)

BUT you must get heart worm tablets for him from the vet
as mosquito's cause (♥worm ) & it gets in the ♥ & kills the dog! :)

Wow .. Not an option? Why not?

ADDED: No .. It doesn't matter. He's 6 weeks old! He should be still weaning, and not be with you until he's 8-10 weeks! You can't leave him out there, that's horrible.

I bet you, like me live in Australia. Other people don't realise it is safe to leave dogs outside here cause there is much land and the heat.

As long as he is in the shade and has water and a place to run around he is ok.

I am assuming you have land, and possible a ute to cart him around with, from your question.

As long as he is fed and looked after, there is no problem.

You can put herbal insect repellant on dogs and it is safe.

Put GARLIC in his feed....it repels all sorts of nasties.
You can add it to horses feed too, to stop the flies from settling and midgies biting.

It also works on humans who attract biting insects. (doesn't repel unwanted, drooling men though... oddly enough!)

advantix has a mosquito repellent in it. your vet may know of other topicals that are safe to use.
