leave church on Sunday morning and head directly to the closest mall to shop. Isn't that going against the teachings of their religion?

I know they do, because I have to work nearly every Sunday, and they troop in by the dozens. Some even give me crap for working. two faced cows! I wouldn't have to work if they followed the teachings of their religion, and kept their sabbath for religious things.

Hey, sergai. you are right, if people didn't shop on Sunday, I wouldn't work then. I'd have a day off and only have to worry about finding a babysitter 6 days a week.

Amazing how not one Christian who replied remembers that they are supposed to keep the Sabbath holy. Of course they find a way to wriggle out of that one too. They simply say that since Jesus came none of the old laws apply. Except of course the ones that they WANT to still apply.

Two points, although I am not a Christian anymore.
First, the Sabbath is on Saturday. Sunday was co-opted because the Saturday Sabbath was, in a sense, a time to celebrate the birth of the Universe. Sunday was the day of celebration because it celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus.
With the exception of a few sects, there isn't any real obligation anywhere to not work on Sunday, or shop or anything else. In fact, if heading to the mall helps them relax and share time with family, then it is doing what the Sabbath was intended to do.

Sounds like it to me but you'd be surprised how many people go to church without knowing why. They think Sunday it's the Lord's day but don't really know what that means.
God created the world in 6 days and rested on the seventh (Saturday). Genesis 2:1-3. This was before there were Jews or Gentiles. The Sabbath is for all humanity not for any particular group of people.
Exodus 20:8-11. He rested on it; blessed it; and sanctified it - set it apart for a holy use.
While on Earth, Jesus kept the sabbath. (Luke: 4:16)
The Sabbath is a sign of our salvation and redemption. Ezekiel 20:12, 20 and Hebrews 4:1-11
So, the Lord's holy day is Saturday. The Catholic church during the Council of Laodicea (Canon 29) stipulates that it had the authority to change God's word, and changed the the day of rest from the seventh day to the first day of the week.
"The church... substituted the observance of Sunday... for the observance of Saturday...a change for which there is no Scriptural authority." Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catholicism, pg. 174
"You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. the scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify." Cardinal Gibbon, The Faith of Our Fathers, pg. 89
You have to decide if you believe the Bible or laws made up by a particular denomination.
It's okay to go shopping on Sunday or any other day that is not Saturday. However, if they think that Sunday is the Lord's day and are going shopping anyway, it shows that they need to spend more time reading the Bible and in prayer. They need evaluate their priorities and their relationship to God.
Blessings,

Given that our culture does not allow a "day of rest" . Sundays are the only day that some have time to do such things .
If people did not shop on Sundays would you be working on that day ? No, you would have fewer hours and Less Money .
On another point Christianity in this Country is viewed very differently than from its Counter parts in Eastern Europe, Asia and South America . It has been corrupted by the Consumer Ideals that lead to shopping and doing other "work" on Sundays

I can't possibly imagine how that would go against the teachings of their religion. There is nothing in Christianity that teaches against malls, shopping, shopping on Sunday, or shopping at a mall after church.

i don't think shopping after church should be the basis for one to be judged as being a bad Christian. It's how one lives his life with regards to his faith is what matters the most. We each has our own belief and has our own different conviction as to what is right or wrong, what is proper or not. If your belief tells you that it's wrong to shop or do anything else except attending church and worship on Sunday, then do so... But to say that it's wrong to go to the mall after attending church and impose it on other people with a different belief is not fair to others... I think whether the person goes to the mall and shop after attending church or not, what really matters is the situation of the person's heart with regards to his religion or belief...

Jesus Christ said that the Sabbath is made for man, not man for the sabbath. Jesus came to give us rest from our own efforts to save ourselves. Salvation comes by faith in Jesus Christ, not by keeping rules. The ten commandments were God's way of showing us we cannot ever attain holiness by our own efforts. Even if we don't do wrong actions we do have wrong attitudes.
The new testament teaches us to worship together with believers, but doesn't restrict our behavior on days of worship.
Why do you feel a need to find something against Christians? Have you been hurt by someone who said they were a Christian, but didn't act like it?
True Christianity is not about religious behavior or rules....it is about having a love-relationship with Jesus Christ. It is accepting the forgiveness of our sins that He provides, free of charge.
I met Jesus on Oct. 21, 1971. His love kept me from killing myself. I have spent the last 37 years getting to know Him and learning what it is like to be a member of His family. His love sets me free from bitterness and other emotional wounds from my past. He is so wonderful, kind and good to me. I would love for you to meet Jesus, He is awesome and wonderful.

Dude, you are so lost. It is lawful to do well on the Sabbath day. Jesus picked corn and allowed His disciples to do it too. And yes, the law was washed away after Jesus' death on the cross. Every one of us is a lying, thieving, adulterous, envious, and Sabbath breaking person and we all deserve to go to hell. God is our judge and a good judge would send us all there immediately...but a stranger came into the courtroom and paid our fine. We simply need to turn away from our sin (do our best to anyway) and ask for forgiveness. Jesus changed it all. I'm glad that it bothers you. That means you're thinking about it. Take care.

I am mormon. We are taught to keep the sabbath day holy and that we shouldnt shop or go out and spend money on sunday unless its an emergency. There are a few specifics about what you shouldnt be doing on Sundays, but mostly its up to the individual, but shopping and going out to restaurants, which is making other people work, is a no no. Working, unless absolutely necc including jobs like police and medicine, is also to be avoided.
It is my beliefs and my churches beliefs people. If you dont believe in it fine, but thumbs down just for stating our beliefs. Get a grip thumbs down happy people.

One of the Ten Commandments says to honor the sabbath. Driving, using the telephone, and using the Internet and electricity are all violations of that Commandment as they are considered various forms of work.
