I'm sure this is falling on deaf ears, but that passage is talking about the manufacture of idols from wood. It has nothing to do with cutting down an entire tree and mounting it in your house (which was not a custom in the ancient near east). It is talking about cutting down a tree, carving into a statue, covering it silver and gold plaiting, and mounting it on a special shelf in your living room. That was a custom in the ancient near east.
(By the way, if you read the rest of the chapter, you will see what Jeremiah is talking about - "...every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them" v. 14)

LOL, 29 more days of this then a little quiet before Easter (oops) Springtime - starts all this agitation again.
Christmas tress and other symbols of love and joy - it's part of who we are now, the OT doesn't apply in (many) people day-to-day lives. Luckily because of Jesus. Because of modern science we do not fear the pig any longer either. So we can have all the cultures mixed together and be as pure as the driven snow - isn't that amazing. No more worrying about OT laws.

Wrey1, I believe that you are wrong. The Christmas tree came from the ritual of Yule. As did the Candles. Far far earlier than the 1600s.

---sweetheart, this passage is speaking agaist idolitry and those who reject the Living God.-------
****why did you choose to omit verse 6 ?????*******
1 Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel. 2 Thus says the LORD,
“Do not learn the way of the nations,
And do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens
Although the nations are terrified by them;
3 For the customs of the peoples are delusion;
Because it is wood cut from the forest,
The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.
4 “They decorate it with silver and with gold;
They fasten it with nails and with hammers
So that it will not totter.
5 “Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they,
And they cannot speak;
They must be carried,
Because they cannot walk!
Do not fear them,
For they can do no harm,
Nor can they do any good.”
6 There is none like You, O LORD;
You are great, and great is Your name in might.
7 Who would not fear You, O King of the nations?
Indeed it is Your due!
For among all the wise men of the nations
And in all their kingdoms,
There is none like You.

The passage you are referring to speaks of building an idol, not a beautiful Christmas tree that lights up our living rooms.
We do not worship trees, crosses, angels, mistletoe, cranberries, snow, candles or any other accoutrement of Christmas. We worship Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
You really should understand context before you make statements like this. It is very detrimental to your argument.
Take Care

This is comparing apples to oranges . Upon any investigation at all you would have learned that the trees in question were hung upside down. Bringing on a completely different connotation to the matter.

First of all, this verse refers to the making of an idol god, not a Christmas tree. Christ had not been born yet, so no celebration of His birth could be taking place.
Second, as a follower of Jesus Christ, anything that I can do that will cause people to think about Him is a positive.
Merry Christmas to all!!!

Those who have christmas trees and celebrate the said chritmas holiday are not true christian people.
Christmas was designed by the Roman Catholic Church to celebrate as the birth of Jesus Christ while in fact and in truth no one know the birthdate of Jesus Christ. It was not written in the bible. The Roman Catholic Church have manipulated everything in their aimed to spread the supposed christianity but they have misguided the people by teaching them some false teachings which are not biblical.

Hell is a state of ones mind !! And the only place one will be burned is in a Crematorium at the wishes of their family members.If you believe in God and other fairy stories,that is your problem.I call myself a Satanist as i don't believe in Christianity or Gods,even SATAN is a Fairy story,to scare the believers of Christ,and vice / versea with God on those who believe in SATAN. I believe in myself and those around me,not some fabled story passed down through Generations to make us believe in something that never really existed and never will !!!!!
