Because they've never heard of carbon dating and, while I love them and God and Jesus and the whole deal, you can't argue with science.

Well First of all the Dating Methods are NOT infliable and they do give crazy readings. For example one person could date a baseball thats been burried in a coal mine at 5 million years old and others may date the baseball at 9 billion years old..

check out http://www.answersingenesis.org/

for more info

basically it does not take millions of years for something to Fossilze there have been cases of Fossilized teddy bears, and dresses.

my point is the dating methods can be altered depending on variables of water, carbon, and the sun so for example if there was a world wide flood that would make all dating methods absolute and flawed

so if the bible is true about there being a flood then every item dated prior to the flood would give false readings.

p/s ALOT OF YOU SHOULD STUDY THE OTHER CAMP AND LOOK AT THERE EVIDENCE AND NOT JUST BELIEVE SECULAR SCIENTIST THAT HAVE A BIAS.

Saying that all Christians believe the 6000 years idea is not tre at all. I think it is a very small minority who say that the world was ready made with fossils and rock formations that only appear ancient.

Over 4 billion years. The 6000 year answer is based on an interpretation of the Bible which was written by people who said they got the info from God. Then the Bible was used to try to bolster up a claim for the age of the Earth. This is an uncheckable source written by unverifiable people and interpreted by people who are trying to prove science wrong. This method is based on belief and not logic as the only evidence is a book of doubtful origin.

The four and something billion answer is from many independent scientists who studied rock formations and radioactive decay with evidence and methods that you can check for yourself.

Young Earth Creationists base their claim on a close reading of the bible, where they derive the age of the earth from how many 'generations' are described in their silly little book. Its a very literal interpretation of what is in that book.

Scientists ignore these nonsense claims and actually look at physical evidence; the fossil record and other supporting science. This indicates the earth is much older. There is so much physical evidence in fact, that its considered indisputable and obvious that the earth is millions of years old.

Christians believe their version because the Bible "says so." Scientists have analysed various rocks and deduced that they must be much older. The scientists are more logical, Christians only believe it's 6000yrs old just because the Bible says it is without any further evidence. And because those Christians believe that everything the Bible says must be 100% literally correct, which is also illogical.

Not all Christians are that anal, of course!

Christians believe the earth is yuong because they have the notion that God was the one that created it. However, scietific/logic people believe that it's millions because of the discoveries of bacteria and other living things. It's kind of complicationed. It's facts vs. beliefs. I believe in facts.

Oh also think about how catholics used to believe that the planets revolved around the sun.. They recently changed that fact in the bible.. Craziness..

The idea that the earth is over billions of years old is based on the fossil record and our understanding of the geological processes that govern our planet. Based on our knowledge of the rate of decay of the carbon atom, we know that humans inhabited caves on the North American continent over 60,000 years ago.
The idea that the earth is only 6,000 years old comes from a book that, in its present form, is less than 2,000 years old.
It was edited and assembled by a pagan emperor about 1500 years ago. Everything in it is based purely on faith.

When you say christians which christians in particular?

Most Christians can accept biblically that the earth and universe are millions of years old and created in 6 eras (days)

You are overstating this. Not ALL Christians believe the world is only 6000 years old. Some fundamentalists do, but others do not.
