flea bath and take them to the vet to see if they need anything that's a prescription.

Frontline or Advantage for the cats. Don't use the cheaper stuff since it not only doesn't work well but can cause some pretty bad side effects (seizures). The 2 products I mentioned are very safe when used properly and in the correct doses (they go by species and weight). Flea dips are too harsh and don't last long enough to really help. Bomb your home but make sure the kitties are out of the room. If the infestation is really bad then ask your vet about capstar.
Also be careful about Advantix, it's a great product for dogs but highly toxic to cats.

When we adopted each new feral cat....we got infested. With Orange Kitty (a feral rescue), there wasn't much we could put on him due to the injuries he had (got hit by a car, lost most of his teeth and 30 stitches to repair his face) the vet gave him a pill called Capstarz. It killed the fleas on him within 24 hours. With BK (mama) and the 4 kittens, the vet put Frontline on her, but the kittens had to be bathed every 2 days with baby shampoo.
Now here we are with the other cats and the house to deal with. Since Spaz in allergic to Frontline, I gave him a Capstarz pill and bathed him every 3 days.
As far as the house, I vacuumed 2 x a day and srayed with stuff from the vets. I also put down baby power (making sure the cats or kittens were not around) on the rugs, couch, area rugs and let it sit over nite.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck

Don't bath the cat, don't use ANYTHING from a pet store. Nothing from a pet store, including powders, shampoos, sprays, spot-ons and 'bombs' can be expected to work because stores aren't allowed to sell the drugs appropriate for flea treatment. Big waste of money.
You have to put something from a vet's on the cats to make the fleas go away - Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate. And you have to get a spray from a vets for your house.

Just go out and get some advantage or frontline. Its a once a month liquid drops you put on the back of the shoulders.
Then, flea bomb your house; just be sure to take the cats out while you do it :)
All these home rememedies don't tend to work, and no one in their right mind would try and flea dip a cat

I like the advantage. Get some of the spray for fleas, and vacuum. I know Raid used to have some in a purple can. If you don't get the fleas that are in the carpet or on the couch's/chair's/or anything else that has fabric, they'll just get back on your cat or you eventually. Wash everything!

My cat has a reaction to frontline so I never use it.
I used Advantage for a while and it worked really well, then I discovered Revolution - which I swear by!
It has all the benefits of a really good flea treatment, plus has worm treatment included, so you don't have to shove pills down kitty's throat, just a quick paste on the back of the neck.
*hint* warm the tube of treatment for a few minutes in your armpit and your cat won't hate you nearly as much after treatment
:)

i use frontline every month and my cat doent have any, but i know if i get behind (like this month) or forget i notice he gets infested and you always find one or two on his head. Today i gave mine a bath (with the special cat shampoo) and then tonight i will frontline him. its really effective.
Also to rid them from the home vaccumm twice a week and also spray some fly spray on a tissue and vaccum this up as well so they dont breed in your vac bag. if you are really infested get a pest controller to treat for fleas my ptr is a pestie and he sprayed our house no probs all fixed.

I went to a vca animal hospital. i live on the west coast so i don't know if they have them were you live but anyway the recomended some stuff I can't remember the name but i know it was like advantix or frontline. But just put something like that on the cats. It works great. Wash everything in your house. And they will go away. If it's cold where you live that will help them go away. keep cats inside thank you for reading good luck
