Animal manure is the #1, chicken litter makes an excellent economic source of organic fertilizer. Composted organic products such as rice straw in your case is a good source. You could try growing a green manure crop as well. Raising catfish or crayfish one season and rice the next season works well and usually increases the income as well as the fertility of your land.

Most countries that grow a great deal of rice have relationships between fish, ducks and rice. Fish and ducks provide fertilizer in the way of manure (poop) and insect control, both above and below the water.

The fish and ducks of course also provide more food in the form of flesh, for the farmer.
