If the question was easy to understand then we would be God. Right. I have a different therory of this that you do
. I believe in reincarnation. If we do wrong in this life we will make up for it in another. so perhaps the businessman was a holy and decent guy in a past life but was very poor. this life he prospers, and the man that is religious could have been a person in a past life that killed children so in this life he had to lose his and know the pain that cause someone before.

Jesus was a delusional Jewish peasant that probably never even existed. The fact that billions of people have believed this fantasy over the years is a sad statement on people's willingness to believe anything.
We might as well have a religion based on Santa Claus because he has shown more evidence of existing than Jesus.
If there is a "god" then why are you safe and warm tonight and some kid in Darfur is dying of hunger or being slowly tortured to death by a sick sadistic child molester. There is no God. So "love" your little fantasy, what a waste of time

First, read the book of Job.
Then, understand this: Without knowing the entire scenario you just described, it could be said that God uses imperfect people to do His perfect work.
Its hard for any parent to lose a child, but you don't who else was affected by that tragedy.
The prosperous businessman may be an example to all. Only God can tell you that.

The Bible tells us that God sends the rain on the just and unjust alike. Christ himself said that calamity is no indication of sin. But simply stated that such things happen indiscriminately. The promises of blessings and our cup running over are not for this life, but for our life in heaven. This life is a trial period, a testing ground. It is far better to be in heaven than to continue here in this life. I know that it is hard to accept, but your child is in a far better place right now. Our faith is constantly being tested. We are told that we must endure until the end, in order to obtain eternal life. The apostil Paul compares this life to a race. It is not important wether or not that we win this race, only that we finnish the race.

You are assuming that what happens to us happens because of what we do and what we believe. You are assuming that everything that happens to us happens because God made it happen.
God made this world a perfect place and put people on it. They had only one forbidden thing. When they chose the forbidden thing it wrecked their relationship with God and everything was affected by their wrong choice. They misued their gift of free will and this world is full of problems and evil as a result of their wrong choices.
Good things happen to bad people/bad things happen to good people. God didn't prosper the Atheist and kill the child. The atheist was a good businessman and prospered through skill. The child died because of illness.
God created this world and He has the right to make this world work the way He decides. Sin has brought death and destruction to this world and that is not God's fault, it is ours.
The difference between the Atheist and the parents of the child who died is that the parents have a relationship with God that will help them get through the pain/grief of losing their child. The Atheist will have his money and not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Only God knows if the businessman will truly be contented and happy with His life. Only God knows what will happen to these people in the future. But, in Romans 8:28, in the New Testament, God promises to rig everything to work together for good for those who are called according to His purposes. I have seen God bring good out of hard things I went through. I miscarried 3 times and while I suffered and hurt over these losses, I also gained the compassion to sympathize with other women in their grief and when I do help another woman God brings good out of the pain of my loss.
One last thought, I was raised in an ungodly home with violence, abuse, alcoholism, incest....it was horrible. Some people could say, why did I have to go through all this? The answer is because people who should have protected me did evil instead. Its not God's fault. If God stopped my abusers and violated their free choice (making them puppets) the whole world system would immediately fall apart and life would end. Just like if God took away gravity there would be immediate chaos and destruction. So, God had to let my abusers abuse me. BUT, God reached out to me, at age 18, when my pain drove me to seek suicide. I met some Christians and they introduced me to Jesus. I let God start running my life and He has done so much to heal me and let me do better for my own children. We all have free will to choose and the whole world is affected by our choices. God couldn't stop my abuse, but He has done thousands of things for me to heal me and change my life since the abuse ended.
I don't know if this will mean anything to you, but it is my story. I love God so much for all He has done to love and help me. If it weren't for Jesus: I would have died at age 18. If I somehow kept living I would have been a bitter, cruel, addict who spread misery everywhere I went. I would have done horrible things, lived in futility and died badly. Just like many in my family have already done.
People hurt me, God saved me!

Atheist parents also lose children, and many devout Christian businessmen prosper.
There is no god.

Because there is no purpose for anything. Life is simply life and sometimes there are unfortunate events in life. God does not exist.

you don't know what was going to happen to that child in later life. perhaps she had a life of misery in front of her.
or perhaps she had a life of intense joy which would have turned her away from god.
those are the sort of arguments christians use.
