You really should have done your research and had all of the health testing done BEFORE you bred your dog. There are plenty that are without homes and we do not need anyone else who has a dog with a uterus thinking that she needs to "have a litter". Please spay your dog. If she is not too far along, you can spay her now and save her from the trauma of having a litter. Trust me, natural birth for a dog is anything but "beautiful". I have assisted in and have whelped litters myself and it HURTS the dog very much, and not all dogs make good mothers. Some first time mothers are so shocked by the sight or the pup that she runs across the room before she can open the sac. That means you have to do it. Some first time mothers will be aggressive or indifferent to their pups. That means you have to have assistance to hold her down to let the babies nurse every TWO HOURS, even through the night - that means setting your alarm clock - and stimulating the pups to urinate and defecate if she is not. They need this until 1 week, where they can go 3-4 hours, still having to be stimulated (thatis until 2.5-3 weeks!). Do you have a job? If so, it is nearly impossible to raise a litter. It is not uncommon to require a c-section, especially in brachiocephalic breeds, large litters (10 more), or small littlers (3 or less) - are you prepared for this expense? Are you prepared to lose your dog ifshe has complications as well as hand raise the orphaned puppies? Did you have your female tested for health problems common to her breed? Did you pick a male that compliments her, not just the "male down the street"? Doyou havehomes already lined up? Good breeders have waiting lists of properly screened homes waiting for their pups....if you answered no to ANY of these questions, you should not have been so irresponsible to let your dog be bred.

Yes i have bred my dog. Learned the hard way that is the hardest job to raise a litter of puppies. Huge pain in the BUTT! I got my female spayed as soon as the puppies were 4 months old. Was never going to breed a dog ever again. Then boom my other dog that wasn't suppose to be fertile got pregnant. I'm expecting her to deliver any day now. She will be spayed when she's ready. Don't get me wrong i LOVE and ADORE dogs but raising a litter of puppies is hard work.

As indicated, dogs are pregnant for about 63 days. As the final day approaches, the dog will look for a place to birth the pups. You can lay down shredded pine over a beat-up towel for her. The actual birth event is pretty much a do-it-herself event. A bowl of warm water is welcome (shades of Gone With the Wind). As the pups slide out of the birth canal, she will nip off their umbilical cords and shlurp them down. Then the pups will take up residance at one of her teats. While you can be supportive of her, don't try to interfere; dogs are pretty fussy about birthing. The problems are if she has more pups than teats (break out the baby bottles) or some pups are stillborn. It may be dicey trying to cart away the dead body.
