Nobody would pay any attention to some one claiming to be a prophet in today`s world. I can`t understand how people are ready to believe that the prophets in the bible really knew what they were talking about. I think in some cases some one wrote stories in the new testament to make phrophet`s predictions from the old testament come true. Truly legitimate prophets would be extremely usefull today as presidential advisers as well as many other advisory positions in private business all over the world. We do have fortune tellers in today`s world and fortunately no world leaders believe in them. But some of those same leaders are ready to order their countrymen to war over something a fortune teller [prophet] said hundreds of years ago. We really don`t know if a prophet even said some of the things or if a story teller just made them up and passed them along until a writer came along and inspired by God decided to write them down as absolute facts. Predictions based on scientific facts is the most reliable form of prophesying. Scientific facts were pretty scarce during and before the time the bible was written. Scientific prophesies are made and used successfully every day in today`s world.

Hmm, funny I just answered an other question with the same answer, but the last prophet I was aware of was Gandhi. But I think that depends a lot on what you consider a prophet. Was he useful, I hope he taught more than just me a lesson. Would we be better of if we would listen to some of his teachings, I think so.

Prophets r like tools of divine. Divinity operates in world through them.
Prophets exist at all times. In some times they get recognised, in other times not.
Prophets help in bringing peace to the minds of people.
