Either Mary lied to God and broke her vow of a life time of chastity, or Matthew 1:25 is subtly slandering her blessed name due to the way in which it is worded. Mat 1:25 And “KNEW” her “NOT TIL” she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called His name JESUS. The dichotomy being knew/not til.

From Jerome’s Bible of 405 AD the scripture as it was then known was entitled “The Gospel of the Birth of Mary.’ in it there is apocrypha that states that “ Joseph was a man very far advanced in years.“ and he knew God chose him to wed Mary. That being the case, and he being a pious man, and after Mary gave birth to Jesus, he wouldn’t even want to lay with her. Because a woman giving birth to God’s only begotten Son, is no mean occurrence if you get my drift. And please, no diatribe about apocrypha not being worthy of belief either, because where do you think most of the information about Jesus, Joseph and Mary came from that was interpolated into the New Testament if not from the apocryphal writings?

To Dr. Paul; I got the Greek letters from the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament. Here is the volume and page numbers 1:689,119
The numbers before the comma represent the volume and page number; the numbers after the comma are the page number in the abridged version.

Yes Pat, very eloquent and accurate reply, I apologize for not making my question clearer, in saying “chaste” I meant to God our Father, not to Joseph as his wife. Thank you for your very insightful answer my friend, and God bless you in everything you endeavor through Jesus Christ our Lord and God.

I think your question is not quite accurate. The first question you must ask is whether or not Mary took a vow of chastity in the first place, and you must then ask what is meant by chastity.
Chastity means not having sex outside of marriage. A married woman who has sex with her husband is also chaste. Now, I am unaware of any passage anywhere in the Bible that says Mary took a vow of chastity. What I do know is that at the time Mary conceived Jesus, she and Joseph were merely engaged. They wouldn't have had sex until they were married. Since the Bible tells us in Isaiah that a virgin shall bring forth a son, and connects this to different prophecies that clearly designate this son to be the promised Messiah, it was necessary for Mary to be a virgin at the time the Holy Spirit caused her to conceive Jesus. I think the passage about Joseph not knowing her until after Jesus was born indicates that she completely fulfilled the prophecy that Jesus would be born of a virgin.
After that, however, Joseph knew her in the sexual sense. We know that because she had other children. We know that she had at least two daughters, and probably three, since "daughters" is in the plural. Although Greek doesn't have a dual, Aramaic and Hebrew both do, so in either of those two languages, for "daughters" to be plural requires a minimum of three. And the four sons are actually named in a couple of places. One of them became the Apostle James, and he is identified as the brother of Jesus.
Catholics argue that these were Jesus' cousins, not His siblings. However, that doesn't hold water because there was a perfectly good word for "cousin" and it was used to describe the relationship between Mary and Elizabeth. Adding more weight to the idea that Mary had other children is the way in which Jerome translated the Greek into Latin, in the Vulgate, which is the official translation of the Catholic church. Here, he uses "soror" and "frater", which are the Latin words for "sister" and "brother", not for "cousin." For more information, you can find a detailed explanation on my web site at the link below.
One final thing to clarify. The term "immaculate conception" is a term the Catholics use to explain that MARY was conceived without a sin nature. It doesn't refer to the conception of Jesus. There are biblical reasons to reject "immaculate conception", but that goes beyond the scope of this question.

Everything hinges on "until" in the passage. In that way, it does not necessarily imply that the action was ceased. Indeed, in the case of Matthew 1:25, it could be interpreted as ""Joseph kept her a virgin--until--she gave birth to a Son."
Because English translation infer meaning to the work "until" it can be unclear.
In John 5:17 "My father is always at his work to this very day" - does that mean that the Father didn't work after it?

Only the Catholic church intimates that she made a vow of chastity. All protestant faiths take this view. She never in canonised scripture promised to not have sex. She was impregnated by the Holy spirit and Joseph did not lie with her as was his right till after Jesus was born. After that she was a mother and wife in every aspect of definition #3. She had other children besides Jesus and that scripture is found in Matthew 12:46. Mark 3:31 and Luke 8:19. It is also known that James and Joses and Salome were Jesus' siblings (on their mother's side.) There is no dishonor in her not being "chaste", as she was legally married to Joseph. That in no way makes her less blessed. Hope this helps.

When did Mary make a vow of chastity? She was a virgin when she conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit. She was engaged to Joseph at the time (espoused wife means engaged, but this ritual is somewhat different from our term engagement). In the scripture you quoted above, it says she did not have sexual contact with Joseph until after Jesus was born. I do not know of anywhere in the Bible that it says that Mary made a vow of chastity.

Well, now I am going to annoy the Catholics. Well....Here goes. Jesus had "half" brothers and per Matthew, sisters, born of Mary and Joseph.
Luke 8:19> Then his mother and brothers (adelphoi) came to him, but they could not reach him for the crowd.
John 7:5> for even his brothers did not believe in him.
*Matt. 13:55-57 Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers called James, and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us?Where then did this man get all this? And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house."
Some may argue that the Luke and John passages had to do with the "Christian brethren" and not biological brethren. This is more difficult with the Matthew passage.
The Matthew passage in particular seems to point out that the town's people knew Jesus and his siblings, and marveled at Jesus' teachings, to the point of thinking "who does this guy think he is, we know his family."
I DO believe that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus. Per the passage you sited, Joseph had sex with Mary AFTER Jesus was born. This in NO WAY takes away from the miracle of the immaculate conception of our Lord Jesus Christ. nor does it subtract from the extraordinary obedience of Mary, in giving birth to the Savior. I admit, it does do some damage to a doctrine of perpetual virginity of Mary. Sorry, but I can only go with what is in Scripture, not the traditions of men.
I want to know where you went to get the Greek letters to write here. NO, I mean how do you get your keyboard to print the Greek letters? I do better with theology than computer stuff. Thanks.

Mary did not promise not to have sexual relatiions with Joseph. Wouldn't that have cheated him? She did remain chaste until after Jesus was born (which avoided any doubt that He was the Son of God.)
She went on to have more children, at least four sons and some daughters. Matthew 13:55,56; Mark 6:3 The Bible writers James and Jude were Jesus's half-brothers.
She was the virgin Mary when she was chosen by Jehovah to bear Jesus.

The notion that Mary had a vow of chastity, or was in fact chaste, is totally groundless. Enormous confusion has arisen from the erroneous translation of the word for "unmarried woman" in the original Greek into "virgin" in English.

I did not know she even took a vow of chastity. Technically, she was allowed to have sex with Joseph without any sin since they were married. However, the Church maintains she is and always was a virgin.

nicely, it relies upon truly. I even have been with my fiance for over 4 years now. we've intercourse (we've been each and each others first), and we've a new child at the same time. and that i'm a Christian. yet i've got faith that marriage is between the couple and God. in case you and God understand which you're in love and which you're dedicated to one yet another, then you definately are married. Marriage isn't procuring a bite of paper to tutor "info" which you're in love. in case you going to interrupt your vow of celibacy with somebody which you do in comparison to, then, actually, i've got faith God might frown upon that. intercourse is meant to be stored for the single you're married to. yet, in case you experience which you now not could be celibate (whether it somewhat is with somebody you like or not), then it somewhat is your selection. in case you chosen to make it a non secular 2d, then it somewhat is your determination. it somewhat is not as much as is Y!A purchasers to choose that for you. regardless of you agree directly to do and how you do it is going to establish your direction with God.
