Oh my mistake, I just thought once you invaded a country and kept a military force there that meant it was your country now.

Yes of course we do. Look at the huge amounts of borrowed cash we dump into the military, more than any other nation does by a wide margin. We ought to have the strongest war machine in the world by far, or something is very wrong.

Not that being armed to the teeth and able to destroy every city on earth in half an hour is enough to keep lots of people all over the nation (and in the oval office) from screaming very loudly that we are in horrible danger (from a lot of unorganized peasants with seconhand rifles and dynamite vests, for example).

You see there is a kind of person for whom no amount of defense is sufficient to make them feel safe. They're called "cowards."

Last time i checked my world map... i dint find the US to be a middle-eastern country...
As far as the military power goes... possibly... technology and equipment are superior indeed. But u know China & Russia pack a lot of power underneath... that is not revealed to the eyes of the public... US uses lot of its military strength... that does not essentially mean that they are the better military power... Even the US dreads the chinese and the russians...
Manpower-wise... India and China have the largest military.

The US spends more on military and weapons than the whole rest of the world combined! If you just count all the countries that could possibly wish to harm us, we spend SIXTEEN TIMES as much as they do. Strangely, though, all our politicians, of both parties, feel this isn't enough and try to outdo each other with proposed defense spending increases.

The problem is that we use the defense budget for pork and to shovel taxpayer money at campaign contributors. We are in love with big, elaborate weapons systems that we can't use, like the B2 Bomber, which was developed to 'clean up' after a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. By the time it was ready to fly, the Soviet Union was gone, but we still built a few dozen of them. And Star Wars, the Strategic Defense Initiative, which after hundreds of billions of dollars spent, has never actually worked, no real expert thinks it -can- work, but anyone in Congress who votes against it is accused of being unpatriotic.

We are prepared for that all-out nuclear war against the defunct Soviet Union, but not to knock over a fourth-rate power like Iraq. We have unquestioned air superiority but when we run out of targets to bomb, and buildings to blow up, we don't know what to do!

And that's going to be our problem with Iran. We can bomb them, we can level their cities and kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people. But we can't conquer them, we can't -stop- them, so all attacking them would do is boost Al Quaida recruitment and further erode our already damaged prestige in the world.

Last time I checked the US wasn't a Middle Eastern country. As well, the US was defeated by Vietnam. Americans are not the brightest kids in the sandbox so I highly doubt they could be considered the most "effective" military.

US is not a middle eastern country

China has the largest standing army in the world. I'm not saying it's the most powerful, but it's the largest.

As for strength, the U.S. might have most of it now, but not for long.

Also, the U.S. is not in the Middle East, it's in the West.

Yeah,

Israel has the next closest, but all their equipment came from us plus with their own upgrades. But yeah we would definitely knock over everything in the sandbox if we wanted too.

The US has the strongest military in the world. Yet it is stretched rather thin right now with questionable asignments and no draft.
