Calories are the amount of energy that are in food. It is made up of fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Every food and nutrition, except water and vitamins, have calories. But it is different how you measure the calories. There are two different types of calories- 1) empty 2) nutritional. You need calories to live, to keep your body fuctional. This is based off of the pyramid such as carbs (mostly whole grain), vegetables/fruits, dairy, etc. Empty calories are those that don't really give you any good nutrition- such as potato chips and junk food.
