Its not hard, its much easier than Linux.
If you are used to Windows XP, the only major changes are where things are located.
That's about it.

It does things "differently" than XP or 2000, and asks a lot more questions about what you'd consider normal activities - confirming running certain programs, etc. If you dont need this functionality, and you have to take time learning the new "Vista" way of doing things (like adding a printer, setting up your scanner, etc) then its a waste.

Vista has some cooler visual effects, and a handy search tool, so if those are important, then it will be worth taking the time.

Its not so much "hard" as it is "different". A Mac or Linux user would say its "intrusive" since it keeps bothering you and making you do things the Vista way, instead of the way you want.

Not really hard, but if you are going to go from XP to Vista you may have some problems because some of your devices like printers or cameras may have to be updated or they will not work. Not everything has been updated for Vista so some of your older software may be useless. Every time you want to install something, you will get annoying pop-ups requesting your permission to continue. I also found it much easier to find things on XP, but that may because I am not used to Vista yet. I personally cannot see the advantage in Vista over XP for the average computer user.

No. Just takes some getting used to. I found it helpful to set Vista to "classic view" which makes it resemble XP. Check these out:

It is not hard, but the only way to learn it is to install it and use it.
