I pity them too, but you must remember that God can change anyone's heart - even an atheist's heart. We do not know who will be saved and who won't - only God knows. God does exist and it is sad and a shame that atheists are who they are, but we cannot change them. We can only give witness to them, if they're willing to listen with an open mind. Other than that, we have to just simply remember that anyone who is not saved by the time Judgment Day comes, God will deal with them. All we can do as Christians is hope that God will open their heart and mind to the truth - and not just atheists, but also those who belong to false religions/cults - they too are just as spiritually lost and blinded as the atheists.

Jenx doesn't understand why some people don't believe God exists. I'm always hearing Christians say all you have to do is believe. It's that word, "believe", that gets me. Here's the thing about belief. You either believe something or you don't. To tell a non-believer all they have to do is believe doesn't make sense. How can you believe something that you don't believe?

But to the original question: "What gets me is when people don't think God exists." What you really mean is when people don't think YOUR version of God exists. Remember, "God" is a generic term. It's not the name of the deity. Allah, for example, is also referred to as "God". If you mean the God referred to by name as "Jehovah" or "Yahweh" then that's another thing. Actually, after years of study and contemplation, I've come to the tentative conclusion that Yahweh did exist but that he may have been nothing more than a technologically advanced humanoid from elsewhere. Judging from the writings of the Old Testament he seems to exhibit very human tendencies and, to be blunt, he seemed to have a bit of an anger management problem. His bombing the hell out of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah strikes me as about as rational a move as George Bush bombing the crap out of Iraq. Of course George thinks he's getting his orders from "God" so I guess it makes sense. But I digress. Basically, I guess my opinion is feel sorry for the non-believers if you want to but it seems like kind of a waste of energy. Why get frustrated over something you probably can't change? Don't worry. Be happy! :-)

I'm not sure what your question is, so I'll just sort of address your comments.

Assuming your God exists and will judge people after death, how can any kind of just God torment people eternally and infinitely for simply not finding a 2000+-year-old book credible? How is that fair and just?

Answer: it's not.

So then we have to draw the conclusion that either (a) your god is not as He's presented, or (b) He is unjust in His dealings with humans. Now, why should I honor or worship someone who is unjust? *I* am more just than someone who would torment a person eternally and infinitely simply for not finding your beliefs credible.

For what it's worth, people of other religions, or of no religion, probably feel sorry for you, too.

Go ahead and feel sorry for me, but I don't care. For all I know there is no judgement day, no god, etc. If there is a god I don't think that he/she/it is so egocentric that it would punish us for not being sure of its existance. I live life in the best way I can, that's good enough for me. I enjoy the time I have here, instead of living in fear and living for others short minded expectations.

I don't understand why some don't believe that God exists.
But I do respect the fact that they have the right to believe that way. All you can do is pray, and be as good of a person as you can, so that they will see God in all that you do. Some times the way you act is more of a testament then what you say. And yes, God will know what each and every one of us do our whole lives. That is why we should strive to be as Christ like as we can. And let our lives be a testament for God, so others may see the glory of God.

The problem is that people who do not believe in Judgement Day do not think about it. It does not matter how often you carry on about it or how many of these "questions" you post. So you can feel as bad as you want, but the concern is in your head because the belief is in your head. People who do not believe in God or who do not believe in Judgement Day (which are two different issues) are not unaware of the belief, they just do not share it. No amount of carrying-on about it will magically transfer the belief into their hearts anymore than music will damage your soul - which some Christians do believe, but odds are that you do not.

I really dont think that God is going to judge any smart comment that I make to you. Dont feel sorry for them. Love them with a Godly love. If you just feel sorry for them, then all you do is pity them and that's not what it is all about. We are to live our lives according to how Christ lived His life. He reached out to, and loved the lost. I am more concerned with what God is going to say about my life right now. Did others see Him in me in my daily walk? Did I reach out in love enough? Did I give enough.(In money and of myself) Did I pray for the lost enough. Did I judge others too much? Will He say well done my faithful servant. Because if I do all of these things right, then others will want what I have. And that would be Christ in me.We must live our lives as if we are the only bible that another person ever reads.

you're making an enormous leap of faith in assuming that your god is real and that there will be a judgment day. i don't believe that a higher being would judge. i think buddha got it right in respect to the attributes of an enlightened being. the gods want us to attain enlightenment. they want us to experience the joy that they've found through attainment of wisdom. they will not pass or fail us, they will help us on our path of discovery.

You know, if "Judgement Day" comes and God is mad at me, what exactly is my offense? Using my brain to analyze the arguments for and against the existence of God and coming to a conclusion that I honestly, sincerely thought was the right one? What exactly is my horrible crime here?

You should have left it at "Not a smart comment" and left the rest of that sentence off.

My God is a God of love, and I don't need any threats to believe in God.

Threats are meaningless to those who don't believe in God, besides, so that was useless for you to write.

Those who believe in and obey God out of love for God are on a much higher spiritual level than those who believe in and obey God because they are afraid.

Would you prefer someone be with you because they loved you, or because they fear you?

"The beginning of wisdom is the AWE of God." No, it doesn't say "fear" in the Hebrew, it says "awe", just like most of the other places where the Christian bible has mistranslated the word "awe" to mean "fear".

Christianity, especially fundamentalist Christianity, loves to scare the crap out of people, brainwash them, and blackmail them into the religion that way.

Finally, what other people believe or don't believe, is THEIR business, not yours, and not anyone else's but theirs. It's between them and God, not you and them.

Everyone has the free will choice to choose whether to believe in God or not. And your right to believe what you like ENDS where the other person's right to believe, begins. Just like theirs ends where yours begins.

It's God's place to judge others for their belief or lack of belief, not anyone else's, including yours.

Source: Me, Jewish

P.S. "Warnings" from other human beings in the context that you are using them, are threats and fear tactics. No good. It's not your place.

If you know the Lord and have a personal relationship with him, you are born again. You have to look at it the same way you looked at it before you came to know Christ. They are lost! Spiritually dead so to speak. So there can be many different opinions. And this is what they truly believe. But when you know God, there is no debate, the truth is embedded into your soul. It amazes me there are so many people out there that are extremely intelligent, and they still dont know the truth. And a man like me has the privilege to know my Creator in a personal way. Jesus Lives.
