There is this guy who has been acting like a player and he knows it but he said he likes me and wants to change? Is he for real or is this just a line?

Guys can change but with former "players" they can easily revert to their old ways. And yes he could be gaming you now.
The easiest way to deal with him is to shoot him down (deny him / don't give him an opportunity). But it sounds like you want to give him a shot.
If you go that route and give him a chance, set your boundaries and limits (with kissing, hugging etc) with him early on and make it crystal clear to him. If he crosses the boundaries/limits and/or tries to pressure you into have sex then you'll know what his intentions are.
Also make it clear if you see him acting inappropriately (by phone, text, email, in person, etc) with another girl then it's over. And don't give your complete trust to him.
Personally... I don't think you should bother. He sounds very immature and conceited. There are plenty of guys out there that will probably treat you better. Good luck.

thats a tough one, he can certainly change if he wants to but ultimately only you can know if he is telling the truth

we can change all it takes is a decision ---- its really difficult to say if he is sincere or not ---- let him show you by not wanting to change BUT changing before you date --- that will really show how serious he is --- best wishes
