I wouldn't because the upset female might attack a new bird. Wait awhile, until she settles down again. Then maybe get a new bird, if you want one, and think it's best. Good luck, *kara* =]

11 years is a very good age for a parakeet.
Naturally his mate is grieving, but she will recover. Give her some extra attention.
If the mate is elderly also, take this into consideration. If you want to have another parakeet, by all means get one. You might keep it in a separate cage at least at first.

Don't even think about to have mate for her now. Just like we human, she needs time to accept the situation that her mate is gone and does not come back.

If you want to have new mate for her, wait until she is ready.

Yes, but first realize that you may never replace it's first love/friend but, only help it get over it's heart break.Try to find one kinda like the first bird.

try to see her reaction day by day then when you feel she has cooled you should probably try to get her a female as well or a male ^_^
