Are you talking about an international conflict, like the Jews and the Muslims, or interpersonal? The Jews and Arab Muslims have been fighting for years. In fact, the Bible predicts this, and tells why they will never get along. It has a lot to do with the fact that they both claim the same piece of land, and the same holy sites for their religious practices. I personally don't think that will ever be resolved.

In interpersonal relations, most people just avoid the subject, and get along fine. Some people like to debate, and as long as nobody attacks someone personally, that can be very informative. Some people would never marry someone with a different religious belief, and others have been married for years to someone with a very different religion. It just depends on what is important to you. I think the best way to prevent conflict is to respect other person's views and respect people in general. Of course, if you think your religion is the only way to get to Heaven, you want to tell other people. Sometimes that causes a conflict, but the person is trying to help someone else.

My opinion is that religious differences contribute to conflict when one religion wants to lord it over other religions as being the best and only true way for all people everywhere. This approach actually sows distrust and hatred. To keep it from happening it's essential that lording one religion over others stop. There is no one religion that is the only way to God or salvation or oneness with the cosmos or any of that. We may not agree with the religions of other people, but we must respect their beliefs. It helps if we learn about other religions so we can understand the different faith and belief systems in the world. We can learn from those other ways of understanding, and we can contribute our own understandings of things relilgious to this pool of knowledge and, hopefully, wisdom.

Religious differences are all in the mind it is the intensity of belief that contributes to conflict. The whole idea of pride in what you believe in and that same pride feeding in to the frenzy of self-righteousness that everyone else is wrong. If both sides believe they are absolutely right you have conflict.

Look at sports fans. In reality no team is "better" than the next, yet sports fans adhere to "their" team like zealots. It's all in their minds.

What can be done is teaching and showing children now that tolerance of the unknown and differences is okay.

All literal interpretations of works created by divine inspiration lead to conflict and the exact opposite of love. Christ said that he was that which holds all things together so it shouldn't be a great leap to see that if your interpretation divides people it isn't from God. Christ also said that his message would create conflict but the context of these comments indicate that he knew there would be plenty of non-spiritual (literal interpretations) of his message, so these comments were a prediction of human misunderstanding. Still literalist sometimes think they aren't in the will of God if they aren't in conflict.

Sad really.

A system such as US has (or had) whereas there is no state religion - the church and the state are separate, where no one religion takes precedence over another, where everyone must obey civil, not religious, law.

People are free to believe, or not, as they wish, but none can impose their beliefs on others.

People are going to argue on it until the end of time, but the important thing that is going to matter and the only thing that matters is if you are saved through Jesus Christ, and forgiven of your sins, that is the only way to the Father, so all of the fighting and arguing over who is right or wrong will not matter is is up to the individual if they believe, if they are saved.

Organized religions are in conflict by their nature. They all claim to have the right answers but all they really have to give is fear and guilt.. Fear and Guilt is in conflict with logic and understanding.

It can contribute significantly. That's why the bible teaches us not to marry someone we are unevenly yoked. Think about all the mighty men in the bible who were led to worship false gods because of the women they married. Religious beliefs are huge in any marriage. At least make sure the foundation of what you believe is the same.

TOLERANCE
Just as simple as that. OK maybe not so simple; otherwise we wouldn't have slaughtered ourselves for centuries on the basis of religion or anything else.

Develop tolerance for those who are different from you, love them the way your god says to love your enemies; know that they are entitled to believe their own beliefs.
