I have great endurance when it comes to track, but I'm pretty slow. Any tips on picking up the pace?

try doing more speed workouts, and try adding resistances devices like the parachute.

It seriously depends on what events you're interested in improving. You say you've got great endurance, but does that mean you're a 1600 or 3200m runner? Or are you trying to run in the sprints?

If you want to improve your sprint speed, you need to have another person (preferably a knowledgable running coach) examine your form, give you some guidelines for some weight training exercises, suggest ways to improve your flexibility, and then give you a detailed workout program.

If you want to improve your endurance speed (such as having a faster finishing kick in the mile or the longer races), you need to work on running economy and your anaerobic speed but at realistic endurance paces. It's important that you're working at paces that are applicable to you. You can't go out and do an elite athlete's workout plan at their times and speeds, but you can get the most by running at the same relative intensity levels. It's seriously important for distance runners to work out at appropriate paces (read Daniels' Running Formula or anything by Pfitzinger or Burke or Dellinger or Galloway).

Anyway, some of these guys (Burke in particular) will tell you to get a heart rate monitor, but you can do without it. Get a pacewheel. If they don't have one at your local shop, get one from pacewheel.com. It'll tell you how fast you should go for each intensity level based on your abilities, not some elite athlete's abilities. I use it with my cross country and track teams, and it's helped me develop several state champions.

If you don't want to read a book like the Daniels one, talk to the people at your local running shoe shop. They can help you develop a good training program. The pacewheel website also has training calendars you can download to prepare for racing.

Get to the track twice a week and do 10x100s. Run the straights hard, fast, controlled and rest, jog, walk, the turns. A half-mile warmup and warmdown.
