How does your mother feel about it. If it is ok with her, I don't see any harm in it. If she has a problem with it, either let him sleep with someone else (close the bedroom doors) or train him to sleep elsewhere (in a crate, for example). If whining gets him his way he will continue to do it. It may take a few nights of putting up with the whining but he will eventually settle down. You might give him a bedtime treat or toy. Get into a routine and he will soon do what you want without whining because he will be comfortable with the routine. Dogs are creatures of habit. Good luck to you.

Who takes care of the dog? Who feeds him lets him out or goes on walks and takes time with him? Why are you trying to stop this? Dog may feel more comfortable sleeping with your mom.

My dog, Boomer does the exact same thing. If he is really comfortable sleeping with your mom than maybe you should let him. But if you want him to stop or sleep with you, then I'd try to make sure he avoids contact with your mom and have him be with you or pay more attention to him.
Extra treats always work! :)

Don't give in to the whining. He does it because he knows he'll get his way, just like a screaming child in a store. Ignore him and eventually he will figure out this is just the way it will be.

Crate train your dog. It's terribly tough the first week or two as the dog will wine, but it will help separate the dog from your mother.

Dear Chris J.,
How old is your dog? What kind?
Why you want to stop it?
It might be too late, but it is possible by training.
Research for dog training.
I had two Yorkies and they always slept with me and not top of the comforter, they always slept by my legs under the comforter and kept my legs warm. They were my babies.

Be firm with him...consistently. They are like kids. Why can't he sleep with your Mom, though? Try giving him a little treat in an area that you want him to be in....get him his own bed and be consistent like I said...or ask the vet, if that fails. Good luck!

simulate a dog. Put him in a dog crate or dog bed and put a hot water bottle and something with her smell on it.
