I am painting Christmas jeans for daughter and am using acrylic paints mixed with fabric medium. The red I am using just soaks in to the denim and doesn't look red. I tried letting it dry and putting another coat, but no luck...it looks bad. Should I just use acrylic paint and no medium? I've seen really cute jeans on ebay with really bright colors....I thought it would be easy to achieve the same look!?

You might want to try using JUST fabric paints like Tulip paint. It works best on jeans and other fabrics. TRUST ME..... i have made many things with these great paints and plus: they come in many varities of colors. Just try them and see how much u like them.

You may need to under paint when the design is. If you are transferring the design to the denim, then under paint the bright areas with white.

Also the paints you are using will control how much coverage you get> Tube artist quality are best. They actually have more pigment in them and your medium is cutting them some . The jars of acrylic do not have much pigment to start with and then the medium is polluting them.

I have painted on my closes for over 30 years (before it was popular) and I've always used artist quality tube acrylics. You can also mix your fabric medium with the fine powered glitter and make your own sparkly paints much less expensive than buying a jar.

You can also make some great paint by scraping pastel artist chalks into a powder and mixing in the medium. Make a wonderful pure pigment fabric paint.
