Well, I started out in a baptist church that taught everyone across the board received the HOLY GHOST when they believed. After reading Acts chapter 8 I found it wasn't so.
I was baptized in JESUS name one wed night may 24th 1989 and the next morning at home, not sure if it was a dream or a vision, but I was before the throne of GOD on my knees praising HIM quietly and the LORD told an angel beside the throne to tell me to praise HIM with ALL my heart. The angel told me that and I began to do that and I LITERALLY felt the SPIRIT of GOD enter in through the top of my head and fill me inside ,it shook me inside out like electricity and I began to speak in another language.
I prayed that day "LORD if that was REALLY you let it happen again the SAME way" and it did.
Since then GOD has healed me of migraines tooth aches absessed tooth aches, back injuries(ruptured disk) slipped disk without meds or doctors.HE has also delivered me from manic depression.JESUS is awesome!I never experienced that in any other church. If you want to know what the ORIGINAL church believed and taught hon, it is ALL in the book of acts, that is our blue print!

bill C. gave the appropriate answer! The apostle Peter became into given the 'keys to the dominion' that's the authority to evangelise the 1st gospel message on the Day of Pentecost. Acts 2:38 Then Peter mentioned unto them, Repent, and be baptized all and sundry of you interior the call of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall obtain the present of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and on your little ones, and to all that are afar off, on a similar time as many because of the fact the LORD our God shall call. that's the two a latest of God to the believer and a promise. What recipient could refuse such presents and delivers? basically people who've forsaken the actuality and believe that God is a liar. whilst the Lord makes a promise that's forever and heavily isn't withdrawn. Having a prayer significant different helps, somebody who will carry you as much as the Lord in prayer and could prayer with you and for you. commence with compliment and worship, do no longer beg yet compliment Him on your salvation. are not getting discouraged considering that's a gadget devil makes use of to entice your concentration faraway from God. Yield to the flow of the Holy Spirit and proceed praising Him for His salvation. interior the call specifically names, Jesus. gatita_63109 A=postolic B=elievers I=n O=ne G=od no votes please

Though I'm a Catholic Christian, I, like all of us who receive the sacrament of Confirmation have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. You make a big mistake to assume that it's only Pentacostalists who receive this.

What's it like? Well I remember it as a big upswing in my faith, but like anything in life, if you don't use it, you lose it. And I lost all that gradually over the years. But I do think that just like Baptism, which is the first infusion of the Holy Spirit, that it never really entirely goes away, even if it's dormant. That grace is still there, and perhaps the prayers of a loved one will help someone, like I was helped, to find these gifts for himself again.

I think that your question supposes some sort of almost out of the body experience, or that the Holy Spirit always gives us some of super power. The central gift of the Holy Spirit is that, no matter what its form, it will increase the person's life of faith and action. The gifts of the Holy Spirit will have a purpose, and are not for show. The gifts that the Catholic Church stresses are things like wisdom, a deep understanding of God, counsel to know how to act, and fortitude to endure evil. This was all for foretold in Isaiah 11.

There are other gifts that the Holy Spirit grants, but the media and some denominations overly emphasize one, and that is speaking in tongues. These more flashy gifts of the Spirit that I take it that you're wondering about are intriguing but St. Paul tells us that love (caritas, or charity as it's sometimes translated) is greater than all these more flashy gifts of the Spirit.

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. " 1 Corinthians 1-2, KJV

These more flashy gifts of the Spirit like speaking in tongues and prophesying are talked about in 1 Corinthians 12:8-11. St. Mark tosses in a few other ones, such as snake handling and drinking poisons, as in Mark 16:15-18. Some denominations say that you must speak in tongues to show that you’ve received the Holy Spirit, but very few people claim to handle snakes and drink poisons. The Catholic Church downplays, but does not deny these more flashy gifts and in keeping with St. Paul’s guidance emphasizes love and the gifts that Isaiah talks about more.

There are certainly many other gifts of the Spirit, things such as the power to heal the sick and cast out demons that are still present Christianity in all its forms.

Years ago, I can only tell you that I felt this phenomenal indescribable sensation in every cell, coursing in my veins, but it wasn't uncomfortable or scary. Literally through my whole being. Felt so alive, complete in a way I'd never felt before. And then my laying hands on others had an increased impact.

But then I must agree with the others who are telling you that it's a very private and personal experience. This 'feeling' sensation has not got really anything to do with it, you will know when it happens.

You don't have to be "Pentecostal" to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

You have to be a believer and "let go" of your efforts and let the spirit fill you. It happened to me driving down the highway sayin a prayer and suddenly it happened. It was like a rushing river.

At that moment I understood.

I answered this yesterday,but I'll reinterate

I was 18 years old and had been praying fervantly for a gift of the spirit for over a year and sometimes up to an hour at a time but it didn't happen
I was at a youth conference and a new born again 14 year old asked me to accompany him to the alter. As I prayed I heard this young man recieve the gift,I was disappointed and lowered my hands in anger at God for this slap in the face.
I felt the hairs rise up on my neck and reluctantly begain praising again, the speaker had stopped for a moment and to my surprise i found myself bestowed with one of God's gifts.I tried to stop,I tried to control it,I was totally aware of what I was doing but I could not stop what I was doing.
After 10 minutes of this i finally stopped exhausted and at that moment,I heard a voice, not like in the movies but clear as a bell it spoke"Ye of little faith" at that i fell to the floor crying as i never cried before.
Now I am a realist, and somewhat analytical, but It left a profound impact on my life from then on.It will stay with me for all of my days.I will never doubt the Lord again.

Nothing special. But, as time went on, I began to see the Lord working in greater ways through me.
