Do u really know how stupid this question is? I saw a newer Volvo brochure they crash test their at speeds up to 75 miles per and hour and the XC70 offers whiplash protection and Blind spot information sys. that tells u if sum1 is in ur blindspot. AND IT"S a Volvo. Toyota's rust out within 10 years hence why they're cheaper and it's a Toyota so it's never going to be as safe as a high end European competitor duh.

Volvo's whole branding comes from safety. The XC70s also have that gyroscope thing in it to keep it from tipping over. Both are probably fairly safe, but the Volvo got it in that category.
As far as which is "cooler" the FJ has a polarizing style, while the XC70 is someone conservative, but it's clean.

safer [probably volvo] toyota is no slouch in this aspect either
faster volvo hands down
cooler [subjective] volvo. the fj's style has a rugged looking front end attached to a wimpy body. the original fj land cruiser is still much more appealing than this retro wannabe.

Volvo is safer,Fj is cooler in my book. And Im sure the Fj is more reliable and cheaper to repair.

I would say the fj cruiser. Toyota really builds all of their cars to withstand the impacy of a crash better than most. I had an accident in my corolla, I was t-boned by someone who ran a red light at 40 mph, and I didn't have any broken bones.

the volvo is the safest car out off the two, a bus hit us in our volvo the bus had a big dent in it, the volvo not even a mark on it.
