if you are in recovery who do you use to help keep you sober other than your self

Don't have one.

The idea that you HAVE to have one in order to get sober is a myth. Aren't the steps supposed to be SUGGESTIONS?

Look into Rational Recovery. One criticism of AA that I read (besides the cult-like aspects of the program) was the fact that AA encourages the idea helplessness. Rational Recovery and Moderation Management (a program geared to those who are problem drinkers, but not yet full blown alcoholics) encourage the exercise of self control and self empowerment. In other words, the alcohol does not have control over you, YOU have control over you.

when my husband went to an AA meeting, they got mad because he said i was his higher power. this was in Texas with a room full of religious freaks. i think its funny, but it was true
