You will need a Boston Shaker, which is two metal cups, of different sizes usually 16 and 24 oz $10 or less together I paid $3.50 and $4.90 respectively, highball glasses, and stemmed (martini) glasses, a jigger/pony combo measure $5 or so, I paid $4 , a muddler to crush fresh ingredients I paid $2.20 for two, a squeeze bottle for simple syrup I paid $1.60.
A citrus press makes things easier.
Look up the drinks you want to make and stock up on the ingredients necessary.
Southern Comfort is not a Bourbon, but it's more popular with the ladies.
Try to use fresh ingredients whenever possible, most mixers suck.
You'll need Ice, and sugar to make simple syrup with.

Well, if you are going to be entertaining the ladies, I would go with a few different flavored vodkas. Three olives is a great brand and offers lots of flavors. Grape and cherry I think are the best. Also make sure to have mixers. Cranberry juice and tonic are a must to mix with these vodkas. Definitely get some Bailey's Irish Cream and Kahlua. These you can drink on ice or mix them together.
If you are a shot kind of person, get some Jager. If you don't like it strait, then mix it with bailey's-sounds wierd, but it is quite tasty!

this idea is totally free
an excellent addition to your mini would be a row of table-top drink menues from Chilie's, Red Lobsters, TGIF, Hard Rock, Joes Crabshack, Applebees, Carrabbas, Olive Garden, Hooters, etc.
what i do is, i tell them its my buddies birthday and that this is his favorite place to eat. and i ask them if i can have the drink menue on display at the table. if he/she hesitates, i offer to purchace it, and at this point i usually score one. I have one from each of the places mentioned above all placed in a row on my mini. The ladies love it, and it usually comes with all the ingredients under the pictures, so you can make all of the drinks.
Rock on!
