I am sorry. I am not familar with other religions so I asked about Christianity. I go along how did any of these religions survive? Yes, I am aware Santa is not real but at a certain age one stops believing; unlike Christianity.

Constantine prayed to God so that he could win and rule Rome.
When Rome was ruled by a Christian ruler who made Christianity the religion, you're talking about an empire from Egypt to England, and that was the whole civilized world then. When the dark ages rolled around, it was the only religion they knew.
Something else unique about Christianity. Paganism didn't TRY to gain followers and it allowed you to worship many gods. Well, if you're Christian it's my way or the highway case. More of a you have to do what I say because my religion is absolutely correct and your beliefs aren't true and so you're Christian or dead way.
So it conquered and grew. It just kept conquering anyone that wasn't Christian was killed or forced to be Christian. Native Americans are the perfect example.
And so it's so strong that since there's no more conquering people no new religions can spread, and most people are grown up to be what their parent's religion is and because of parental and other pressures people stay in their religion and plus most branches of Christianity are very forceful in trying to convert people, so they succeed.

The same way Judaism and Islam and Hinduism and belief in Buddah, and Taoism, and the other zillion believes have also survived. Christianity has a special appeal to those most unfortunate on this planet and to women and this helped a lot, there's a lot of reading available on this topic if you go look for it, I've gotten some very interesting books just at the local library. All these belief systems conflict, meaning that they all can not be ''the one true belief '' but members will fight and die to defend their particular relilgion as the only true one, I'd say, go do some study, unless you aren't really interested in an answer and just want to provoke some arguments here.

Any number of reasons really. However, I must point out that there are several belief systems far older than Christianity. Does that mean they are all correct?
To answer your question Christianity's survival is written on the blood of others. Squash the opponents and independent thought. Why? Surely you must have noticed the vast political power and wealth the church has had through the ages. You don't think they'd let all that go without a fight do you?

Hinduism, Judaism and Buddhism have all survived longer than Christianity, and at most only one of them can be true. A self-perpetuating idea is called a meme. It's a bit like genetic information which survives because of natural selection, so if you're well-camouflaged, you're more likely to survive, have offspring and pass on the genes. Christianity survives because of its promise of eternal life and the threat of hell for unbelievers. But, really, the idea of a god who impregnates a virgin without asking her or her fiancé, in other words rapes her, and later demands that his own son be tortured to death as a human sacrifice... well, no wonder Christianity attracts so many control freaks, wifebashers and pedophiles. Here in NZ nearly all our high profile sex offenders are Christian fundamentalists.

I see people keep referencing hinduism, taoism, and yes they are old,but christianity stems from an older religion in judaism. Also consider hinduism hasn't suffered the ridicule that judaism and christianity has suffered mostly due to those religions like hinduism have been prominant in non western societies and have been centuries behind in education and free thought in ages past. They have been less subjugated to critical thinking. The evidence is on this forum itsself. How many questions are posed denouncing hinduism compared to christianity.

Really makes you wonder why all of the apostles but John were killed for preaching about Jesus. Very few other religions can claim the number of martyrs that Christianity has. My conclusion is that Christianity must be based in truth.

Hinduism is much older and thus has survived a longer time, should we all convert to that?

Edit
Strictly, speaking Christianity is only 2000 years old, and technically its current dogmas are not the same as the original Christians. As far as age goes, Judaism, which refutes Christianity, is older as are several other religions.

Christianity will continue to survive time because of the love of Christ that lives on in the hearts of His believers. Nothing in this world can separate us from this love.

How long did people think the world is flat?

How long did people believe in a geocentric solar system?

How long have people believed in Hinduism, Buddhism, Paganism, and other non-Christian religions? Do you think that makes them valid too?

Just because people have had a stupid idea for a real long time, doesn't make that idea true.

How do all the lies about J-lo pass through everyone? How does everyone get obsessed with whats happening with Britmey Spears... same damned reason.

You tell the lies enough, eventually people are stupid enough to believe them.

I bet you are one of those people that still think Michael Jackson slept in a hyperbaric chamber aren't you?
