if the cat goes outdoors, it could have worms or other parasites, giardia is one that causes bloody stools.
If its strictly an indoor cat, it could be bleeding internally.
Dont wipe his rear though, cats clean themselves and you wiping may hurt if its hemorrhoids or just sore.
I wouldnt fool around, and i'd take him to an emergency vet now with a stool sample.
even after worm treatment though, if there was any thing contaminated around the house or yard, even after a dewormer and antibiotics, the animal can still get worms. giardia like i mentioned, is a really hard one to get rid of. In some cases of worms, it takes two or more treatments to finally get rid of them.
blood in stool is not normal even if your kitty is acting normal. Please take him to a vet asap.

My cat has had bloody stool for awhile now. The vet can't seem to figure it out, however it has honestly been a few years. She frequently leaves little drips of blood on the floor (yes, I know this is gross), but shows no other symptoms of anything. It remains a mystery.
Her blood is bright red. This is very different than dark red/blackish red blood. The vet has done a full exam and treated her for worms. Sometimes stress in cats can apparently cause constipation in cats, which can cause bleeding, but if the blood is dark that means this likely isn't the cause.
That being said, there could be all kinds of things that are causing the problem. The best advice is to never ever ever deny a pet medical treatment. If there is a vets office normally they have an after hours number where you could at least get a quick bit of advice.
Another good rule of thumb is that if the cat is showing two or more symptoms of anything that constitutes an emergency that needs to be dealt with before tomorrow. If the animal is showing any distress, not eating normally, vomiting, acting strange, if it is lethargic, or if it is doing any other thing out of the ordinary that probably is a bad thing. Animals have a reaction which makes them hide illness, which means that if there are minor symptoms it can be a very big deal.
Good luck with your kitty. Hope all goes well.

There are a lot of possibilities, including severe internal damage causing the bleeding. If you are anywhere near a megacity, you can probably find a 24-hour or after-hours veterinary clinic. Look through the vet listings for that. Or, some regular vets have a 24-hour helpline. The vet calls you back and assesses the situation, then, if s/he can't handle it over the phone, gives you the number of a 24-hour facility.

Wow - call the vet office and you should get contact info for the nearest emergency vet office that is open. Bloody stool is really bad. If the cat was attacked by an over-sexed male, it may just be stabbing wounds from the assault (male cats have a piece of sharp cartilege in their member). Otherwise, your cat is very ill and may not make it to morning.

If his stool is black, tar-like or goopy, call a vet hospital IMMEDIATELY, because it means that he has internal bleeding. Otherwise it could just be an injury to his anus. If he starts acting sick at all, it should be considered an emergency.

Try looking in your phone book for a vet that has a 24hr emergency center. Sounds like your pet has some internal bleeding and you should be worried. Get it to a vet ASAP!

If it was bright red blood I wouldn't be too worried, I'd just keep on eye on him. Red blood indicates a minor rectal rear or hemorrhoid. If the blood was dark red (almost black) that could indicate internal bleeding and I'd get him straight to a 24 hr vet.

this is very very bad! you need to watch her and if she gets worse take him to the animal hospital, do not let him out of your sight. if you need to put him in a cat carrier with food and water and take him out once an hour for the bathroom and to pet and comfort him.

There's many different things it could be. Call your vet first thing in the morning.

This may be serious. Let him sleep somewhere warm tonight and then take him to a vet as soon as you can tomorrow.
