It becomes a sin when you actually start listening to the knuckleheads who say it is a sin and believing them.

Depends on your religion. There are religions that don't care if one is gay, thankfully.
Others believe it's when you have a "lustful" thought - gay or straight. Some it becomes a sin only when one acts on it, be it kissing or a sexual act.
I'm glad you feel the way you do, restores one's faith in some parts of humanity.

Being gay becomes a sin at the same point that being heterosexual becomes a sin, when you act on your sexuality outside the bounds established by God (marriage).
Even though I am heterosexual, if I had sexual relations with a woman and were not married to her, I'd be sinning. If a homosexual male has sexual relations with another male and is not married to him, then he is acting in sin.
Of course, if I lust after someone, that's a sin too. So a male who lusts after another male (or female after another female) would likewise be sin.

Being gay or having feelings twds people of the opposite sex is not a sin.
Having premarital sex, of any kind, is. Having homosexual relations is. Once you cross the line from having tendencies to acting upon those, you are crossing into committine a sin.
Since when did sex only have to do with acts of love?

It becomes a sin when a gay person engages in homosexual sex. The Bible teaches that sex between two people must be in the context of marriage between a man and a women if it is to perfectly reflect God's will for humanity.
Matthew 19:1 Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. 3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?"
4 He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh'? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."
1 Corinthians 7:2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. 3 The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Actually, being gay is not a sin. What do you think Lazarus was doing in the bosom of Abraham?
And that was going on in heaven.

It may be a sin earlier but it is certainly a sin, according to Christian teaching when sex happens outside of heterosexual marriage.

Never. The concept of "sin" is an invention of a religious mind. There is right and wrong however, but there is no sin.
