Fat will only "burn" in relation to how much you exercise. The safe weight loss is about 1-2 pounds a week, maybe slightly more if you work out a lot. Weight lifting is generally not a fat burning routine, it will build muscle and tone, you will lose some fat, hopefully you will be lifting low weight/many reps. You may want to add cardio such as running, treadmill, stair climber etc.

Basically, in order to burn fat, you have to burn more calories in a day than you take in. This pretty much the only way to do it. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So, in order to lose 2 pounds per week you'd have to burn 7000 more calories per week than you've taken in. For example, if you're diet is about 2000 calories a day, you'd have to burn 3000 per day through exercise and other activies.
You'll also need to incorporate cardio exercise to really get your hear rate up. Weights will help, but on your non-lifting days do about 30-45 minutes of cardio and take one day off per week to allow your body to rest.
