there is a .22 caliber rifle in my family's workshop that is not used. i am interested in using it for target practice and maybe periodic hunting. however, my father does not think it is registered.
do i need to register a rifle in Kansas?

NO...There is no mandatory long gun registration in Kansas or Missouri for that matter.You are fine to use it for target shooting or hunting at your pleasure....

I've had many rifles over the years, and I don't remember "registering" them. I do not know about KS law, but that should be easy to research - just ask a gun dealer. I've hunted some small game (squirrels and rabbits) with a .22, and some varmints, like groundhog.

I've "killed" hundreds of bottles and tin cans, of course.

I don't think it needs to be registered if you have a hunting license (not sure, I'm in WV). They are good for Squirrel hunting, maybe rabbits and other small game. Not birds though, the bullet can travel around one mile. Also .22 ammo is cheap, good shoot'em up gun.

no... your just fine all you need is a hunting license and i really wouldn't recomend a .22 for hunting. maybe squirrels,groundhogs,raccoons, and small rodents like that would be good for a .22 but you don't have to register it.
