If you mean that people approach Him as a means to get into heaven then I'd say that many aproach Him in a very great degree for that reason. However, after the "honeymoon" is over, many people begin to realize that its not just about getting into heaven or even about themselves at all. Its about living out a life that is to be changed from within by the Spirit of God through His Word made possible by Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us. It isn't easy by no means and it isn't a completely blissful and peacful journey all the time. It can get down right frustrating when sin and temptation enters in. No one, including Christ, said it would be easy but He said that it is the way you show how much you love Him and are changed by Him.

I do not see Jesus as a means to my end, instead, I see Him as a means of eternal life!

Small and great--most think he is a means to an end but they don't know what the end is, never mind the means.

Choosing to follow him out of fear of hell is a totally self serving function. Hell is real. It is total separation from God for eternity. The righteousness of God and the wickedness of man's heart are in diametric opposition. God desires for man to realize the separation from Him grieves Him. He wishes man to return to Him of his own free will in love and sorrow for wrong doing. God so LOVED the world that He gave His only begotten Son. He wants that love to be shared.

It is very possible if you just realize that God is not the judgmental jerk that religion makes Her out to be.
Then Jesus can just be your brother.

I came to him because of who he is, not what he can do for me. Most believers feel that way.
