Our chiuawawa dog Ginger has been pregnant for six weeks now. It was crazy and kind of funny how it happened.
Okay my grandma said she thought the dog was in heat or whatever and we put her in the garage because she went in the house. Well this little black weener dog kept coming by the garage and then they would start barking at each other for a little bit. We kept having to make the weener dog leave but it kept coming back. This went on for about four days. On the fourth day we took Ginger out for the bathroom and I live in Apple Valley, CA so we have these big backyards and there was a hole in the fence that we were not aware of. We saw the black dog and Ginger run toward the hole to the dog. My grandma started to scream to get Ginger because she ran out and as we chased her, she and the dog ran accross the street and started doing it. OMG. When the saw us catching up, they ran even further and started doing it again. It was so funny.

My grandma was furious with Ginger and started calling her a fast @ss and things like that. But I don't understand why Ginger all of a sudden acted like this with a stranger dog. We soon found out she was pregnant about a week ago because her things were poping out. Now she has gotton really big and we are expecting the puppies any day now. But we don't know what to do, how to deliver, do we help?, Do we need to be there?, can she have them by herself? This is new to us. We havn't even decided if we are going to keep the puppies.
Also sadly the weener dog died because it got hit by a car. We saw his body a week after Ginger was pregnant and removed it from the street.

rescue member I'm sorry to upset you, but we love or dog. I thought it was funny because of the way it happened. We however didn't know she would do this kind of thing with a stranger dog. As for the black weener dog, it was my grandmother who saw his body and advised us to move it. So please don't scold us for this, I'm just telling you what happened. We are excited about the puppies though, but we don't know if we will keep them all or not.

Take her to the vet to get her x-rayed this will tell you how many she's having, this will also give you a clue as to whether she can have them naturally or need a c-section (the size of the puppies will be a clue). Chihuahuas are notorious for needing c-sections. My mom has seven chihuahuas and a few litters. Her last female needed help with the birthing but my mom's a nurse so she was able to help. The dog was in alot of pain and it was too late to take her to the vet.
It's better to be safe than sorry. So please take her to the vet and he can advise you better.

Gestation is 63 days so you will know about when they will be delivered if you add this to the time she became pregnant. Most dogs will have no problems, unless the male was a larger dog. You may not be aware of when she is going to deliver and come home and find the puppies. Call your vet if you are aware of any reason for concern. They can tell you if any preparations are necessary.

Your grandmother was mad at Ginger???
She left her unspayed dog outside while in heat and blames the dog for getting pregnant???
The male dog got run over and killed because your grandmother left her unspayed dog - in heat- outside to attract any male that came along - and you THINK THIS WHOLE THING IS FUNNY???
Must be a real lack of fun - and responsible sane dog owners - in Apple Valley.
Your grandmother should be ashamed of herself - really, truly ashamed, to cause so much misery and hurt - now you need to make sure that your dog is properly vetted and not alone when she has those puppies - she could die through neglect like that.
Get her spayed once the pups are weaned - and please find a more decent and less cruel source of amusement.
This whole situation is shameful, you really need to act like responsible people, not hold dogs in such low worth.

Wow, that is an amazingly hiliarious story. Or I guess it would be, if it wasn't so pathetic.
You could 58-65 days from the day that she was bred.
You need to take her to the vet, and No, she cannot have them by herself. If she starts to have trouble, she can easily die if she doesn't get help when she needs it. Best idea for a horrible mistake like this is to have her spayed.

if theres a vet in your area or an animal clinic take ginger there she needs the help of a vet to help her deliver her puppies especially if thisis her first litter.some dogs have trouble delivering and a vet can assist your dog should a problem develop.good luck and i hope things go well for you.

OMG. Another case of irresponsible breeding. It's not funny about this whole scenario. If you have spayed her earlier, you don't need to come up here, scratching your head, thinking about what to do when she whelps. When a female is in heat, a male can smell her far away. I suggest you should talk to your vet asap to ask about options and preparation when the puppies come. Have her spayed after the litter.

lo awww congratulations. ok well small dogs are usually pregnant bout 12 weeks the dog will let you know when she is ready but just be sure you keep a real close eye on her around her due date cuz if the male was bigger it might be a little difficult for her to have them without a vet present. otherwise your gonna mainly watch and make sure she gets them outta there sacks kinda quickly and that she cuts there cords if she isnt cutting them your gonna have to do it for her with a sterilized pair of scissors and tying it off with a piece of thread, then make sure your pups are warm and that they get on the momma right away to eat and thats it its easier then it seems but ive done it a million times you'll be fine again congrats!!!
