First you have to understand who are the Jinn.
What Quran lead us to believe is that we human beings are unique in the universe; however, earlier, God created other types of intelligent beings, called Jinn, who not only inhabit parts of this universe but can also travel through space and have visited Earth. Whereas human beings are created from earth (matter), the Jinn were created from fire (energy.) The 72nd Chapter of the Quran, Surah Jinn, reveals that at one time the Jinn were permitted to travel anywhere in space, even come close to 'Heavenly Sanctum' (my own description) but are now restricted, and if they persist, they can be fired upon.
There is a passage in the Quran which has always intrigued me. It says, "From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years" (Quran 70:3-4). In another verse, it is said, "If We were to open to them a gate to the sky and they were to continue ascending therein. They would say, 'Our sight is confused as in drunkenness." (Koran 15:14-15.) Perhaps what that means is that there are 'passages' in space, with ‘gates’ (not sure what these are), through which one can travel, but by the time one reaches God, 50,000 years of earth time have elapsed. On the Day of Judgment, "[78.19]... heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings/gates."
Now, considering all this, if the Jinn are indeed created of energy and can travel through space-time continuum [actually, if they are made of energy, time and space would have no meaning to them], it becomes probable that Solomon who was given knowledge of such things allowed the Jinn to be participants in the creation of this temple for God--not that he needed them but that they assisted him by the command of God.

She's referring to oral traditions of the Jewish people and the apocryphal Testament of Solomon. Jinns are from the Koran.
He wasn't evil, or into dark magic, if you read the testament of solomon, a demon was prying on a yountg worker, so solomon prayed and archangel Michael gave him a ring that gave him control of Demons, and because of this, he used them to work on the temple.

As far as we're concerned, we have no idea what Jinns are, so I would not assume they are part of any type of magic...
But if you read Surat Al-Rahman, an interesting idea puts itself forth that it's possible Jinns inhabit another planet similar to ours in this vast universe. The Surah is full of duality and comparisons between us and the Jinns.
For example: "Rabul Mashrikeyni wa Rabul Maghribeyn" Lord of the two Easts and the two Wests...hmm...it does not have to mean what interpreters have said which is there are two Easts and Wests on Earth (one Sunset and Sunrise in the Summer and another Sunrise and Sunsert in the Winter), but instead, it could mean two different planets, each with it's own sunrise and sunset...etc.
Solomon (pbuh) had power like no one else had before or after him. He had the power to control the clouds, understand bird and ant speech, and control Jinns.
In the Qur'an, the Jinns were created before humans, therefore it is possible that in their existence, they have technologically advanced further than us, and therefore had tools that were far superior than any human tools existing at the time of Solomon to help with building temples for Solomon to worship God.
WaAllahu A3lam...
A note to Brother Sincere-Advisor below: The Ascending Stairway could easily be interpreted today as a wormhole, a fast link between different parts of the same universe, or even an entirely different universe. Islam has encouraged us to think for ourselves about the universe, and the Qur'an will always be there fore us to re-interpret in the light of our advances in science and technology...

It seems like you are a Muslim or you got this idea from a Muslim.
Yes the Quran teach that Solomon used Jinn (spirits) to help build his temple. Now, that is not in the Bible it is only in the Quran.

That is the story. God supposedly gave Solomon a ring that controled the demons. He enslaved them with the power of this ring and forced them into slave labor in the building of his temple. Yes, Solomon was a highly skilled magician. Kabbalah. He was of the elite bloodline and dark magical skills were natural to them as they could see in all dimensions.

Dear Doctor, What are dark things ? Even black things can also observed in the light only. So light is compulsory for observing black and other colours. Magic is nothing but the secrecy of an action. If we know the secrecy of that item there is no magic at all. Every thing happened on this earth based on their own resulted papa/punyas of their own previous birth. No body shall change any item other than GOD ordered. Some times doctors can also require check up of their own body. Be on that job dear.

I did read a story once that had solomon I think using demon labor to do construction. but the method was using a ring that God gave him to control them.
why would one assume there was anything evil or dark? is there some reason God would not give his servant a means of controling bad things to do their bidding?

Jinn are not demons. They are servants of ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala) and are made of smokeless fire. Prophet Solomon(PBUH*) was able to control and talk to the Jinn because this was one of his miracles given to him by ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala). Solomon(PBUH*) did not practice dark magic and wasn't evil. He is a Prophet of ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala) in Islam.
