As a person who was dirt poor and happy and who is now rich an miserable, I really feel I can answer your question from experience (and not just guessing).

When you’re poor, you want everything and you dream about those things that you cannot have. Every day, you dream about that sweater you saw in the window…or you just wish you could have a bathroom with a bathtub…
In the meantime, to have fun and be happy, you rely on your friends and family and co-workers (since you have to work) and neighbors.

When you’re rich, everything you want…you buy and get bored by it…your friends are more like social acquaintances or your friends because you have money…you don’t have co-workers since you don’t have to work and your family is just jealous because you became rich…and the neighbors…they’re too far away from your big estate to really borrow an egg from you…

I have money but I’m just too tired to spend it…more stuff? I don’t need more stuff.

The only thing really is…about love. If you have love, then you’re happy and it’s easier to get real love when you take out the money equation.

Looks like the polls have spoken! And listen to every word. Dirt poor and happy! A woman will follow a man to the ends of the earth and will always sacrifice $ for emotional intimacy! That connection will always prevail!

As far as the unhappy rich man below? If a rich man is truly happy that's great. How well do you know this rich man? I wouldn't be happy working 80 hours per week at the expense of never seeing my family! So why define being rich as only meaning more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$? Being rich is having a family that is fluent and communicates!

Well I think you can be both rich and happy. If you are setting money as your priority, you are going to be rich and miserable, but if money is not really important I think you are going to be just fine. Money is just a number; money is the best slave you can have but it's the worse boss you could ever had, because you are going to be working for it all your life and never will be enough. Just try to have a good balance, don't be very materialistic and don't over show it so you don't attract negative people who are just about the money.

That does not make any sense because, rich people are not miserable all of the time, and poor people are not happy most of the time.

in reality people will choose rich and miserable 99% of the time. but it is a false choice. a mountain of data exist that proves rich people are generally far happier than poor people.

poor people have to work and take orders and get kicked around and eat cheap stuff. they struggle and get kicked down. they are hassled by police and pick up disease. being poor really sucks.

that is why there are millions of criminals and drug users and drunks that are very, very poor. the steal and live a hard life. the rich people use them to haul loads and do their bookkeeping and and ride in the cop cars to protect the rich neighborhoods. etc.

that is why so many poor people would check rich and miserable and if you don't understand. well, you just might be too young to get it.
