The state says I owe back taxes for childcare. Because they looked in 1 year and coould not find proof they basically said for the last 5 yrs I have to prove i paid childcare.

Well for the recent years, I have proof. But as far back at 3 yrs ago. The school has been bought and sold approx. 7 times (prviate school). I went to the school and the lady told me she didn't have record of my son going to school there. Even when I showed her his graduation certificate (pre-5 and Kind). I don't have the receipts from that long ago and don't know what to do.

Am I screwed? Please help!

The state isn't holding your federal return, but the IRS probably is if by their reckoning you owe back taxes. And if they disallow a deduction on one year's return. it's not unusual for them to look at other years also. Any chance you could get info from your bank showing the checks written to the school? Were you working then? If not, you weren't eligible to deduct the child care and it would be disallowed in any case.

Good luck in getting this straightened out.
