I know some well-to-do people who are good solid citizens, have loving families and live happy lives.
Why do some comfort themselves by saying the the rich are not truly happy? Isn't that just sour grapes???

They need to look in the mirror...by the biblical standard of "poor", everyone in this country is rich. Anyone getting a vicarious thrill that "the man" is going to hell because he is rich is delusional at best and needs to know that this certainly is not the Spirit of Christ at work in their hearts. Go whine about how humble you are to someone else...satan gives you the desire for others to perish.

For the record, I am solid middle middle class with no hopes of an inheritance large enough to do anything except perhaps settle my debt....for which I am thankful.

Of course the lives of rich are easier in a number of ways, no doubt about it. But if you dig into that assessment that many rich lead miserable lives, you might find there's quite a bit of truth to that. Look at Hollywood- Paris, Lindsay, Michael, divorce after divorce, the Real Housewives of Orange County. Of course there are exceptions to most every rule. And should it comfort the poor to realize this? No, because the poor have their own miseries.

They are only saying that money cannot buy happiness.
It is more difficult for someone with a pile of materials and money to be spiritual. They have too many luxuries and too much indulgences to look at the world around them-if you are rich, you havn't given much to the poor or had much compassion-or else you'd be of average living.
People who struggle understand the benifits and spiritual well being of compassion and giving.
Instead of buying a pool that is unnesserary-why not buy food for hunry kids? instead of buying 6 tv's buy one and save a life...
The wealthy can get into a habit of materialism that poor ppl can't. If a poor person is sad, they automatically turn towards love of family and friends...not the comfort of chocolate or their Wii's...

granted, not all wealthy people are greedy or are lost, but they are going to have a more difficult time knowing spirituality and love then if they were of average wealth.
To be wealthy means you probably have a full time job, work late, and never see the family.
You can't get that wealthy without being away from home ...and if you can-you are lucky.
There's nothing wrong with any way of living, but each way has their obstacles...rich have an obstacle of materialism...poor have obstacle of survival..
The more materials you hav ethe more problems you get- greed, jealousy, choices to drink, drugs, gambling, smoking (b.c money is no option ppl can afford the sins of life), problems with hoarding, eating too much/obesity, elf indulgence...etc

PS- calling th epoor sour grapes, is not being humble, and you obviosuly can't be THAT happy with yourself if you need to start something on those less fortunate then you are...that's really low.

I am not exactly rolling in dough (I'm disabled) and it doesn't comfort me at all that the rich lead miserable lives. Of course, as you stated, not ALL well off people are unhappy. Yes, I think it is just envy. Nothing can be gained by that. Also, when I could work, I used to work in a really upscale bookstore. ALL of the patrons were SO rude. I giftwrapped a book for a lady and she asked me if I would wait outside for her to drive up and give her the book. It was raining outside, and so, I did it. I waited for a 30 MINUTES and finally she squealed up in her Jag and said....."Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot all about you."

I dont need much in life ... but if I had money , i know i could do a whole lot more with my life though

so I dont believe this no
it would depend on the person
same as poor people
we are all individuals , we live our lives differently ... rich or poor

I am a happy poor person
but I would be a happier rich person

Some rich people live miserable lives and so do some poor people. It really has nothing to do with money.

Because it is the rich who exploit the situation of others, make themselves rich on their expenses and leave them very poor.

True. I think most people just envy them because they have money. Instead of actually knowing what kind of person they are
