Hello Mark G.
I think most major religions encourage their congregations to missionaries positions. The Karma Sutra seems to expect even more from it's true believers.
Regards,
Lenny.
PS: I don't think it's only allowed at dinner time but if so . . .
Like the man says "it's five o'clock somewhere" !

Well, I guess it depends on the missionary. I have met some that are really doing awesome stuff, I have met some that I would not personally support. I mean, that is a loaded question, kind of like, "what do you think about lawyers" or something like that- when you meet a bad one, you know it, but when you need a good one, it is sure a blessing.
Find a missionary that you believe in, and support them! Pray for them regularly. They are often willing to give up comfort, career, and security to try to change the world. Ask yourself what have you given up to help your neighbor?
It is not easy to leave friends and family, and live in a strange culture until it becomes your own, until you grow to love the people, the language, and the culture. But if it is something that God has called you to, there is nothing more fulfilling!
Pray for and support a missionary today!

Everyone is supposed to be a missionary, it's necessary work.
I'm Mormon, and the LDS church is a Christian church...and so are Seventh Day Adventists....I didn't know Muslims went out knocking....and you forgot Jehovah's Witnesses...
Anyway, they don't just knock at supper time, that's just a crude stereotype, and yeah it is missionary work.

I hold missionaries in very high regard. They are doing what they feel is right, and are just trying to share what they hold dear.
My in-laws just got their mission call. They are going to Korea again. It's an 18 month mission. They are gone from family, home, friends for that long. They will miss birthdays, Christmas, grand children being born. It's worth it though. They won't be going to door to door. They will be in the PR department, working with TV, newspapers, radio and government officials. Pretty cool I think!!

I hold missionaries in the highest regard. For the record I have never but once had them come @ what would be considered dinner time. But I knew they were going to come, so it was okay w/ me. I've had LDS missionaries come alot to my door, JW came once w/ flyer about a conference, and that's all. There have never been any other door-to-door missionaries, Christian or otherwise.

Yes, missionaries are held in high regard.
And no, the LDS church (mormons are a nickname for LDS/ members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints) are not encouraged to pay ANY disrespect to missionaries of other faiths, and if they do it is going against their doctrine. I am sure mormons are encourage to be respecful and kind to other missionaries, even if they polietely refuse their message, and they would want done to THEIR missionaries.

I think that missionaries are awesome! They go out and try to share with others what they believe. I am Mormon so I really love that concept. Like, if they are serious about it and love what they are doing then I think that it is an awesome thing!

I dont mind if they knock on my door.
All I have to do is say no thank you Im happy with what I believe and shut the door. If they get pushy then I will push back.
They are doing something they feel is important to them and thats fine but just dont get obnoxious or pushy. So far Ive never had that issue.

I find them mildly agitating. They can be too aggressive at times. I think it's healthy when people share the teachings that they feel passionately about. But there is a difference between sharing and pushing a belief. When they get pushy I lose interest. Who am I kidding though, I'm the one who peeps through the blinds then walks off to continue eating.
