Christians, as we all know, like to sin. Yes, yes, they claim they don't, but reality demonstrates otherwise. What Christian can possibly deny that they don't enjoy a good sin now and then?
Atheism, or course, represents the one and only sin that a Christian can't commit, for the second they do so, they ARE NO LONGER SINNERS!!!
So there you have it... it's total jealousy. Christians, as we all know, want to sin in every way imaginable, but atheism is the one sin forever beyond their grasp. It's like non-stop torture to them. The golden ring, just out of their grasp. Absolutely infuriating!!!

Actually, I was an atheist for years, but your theory did make me laugh.
It's a good one -- and I bet it is sometimes true.

Not all Christians dislike Halloween. Personally, I kinda like the day. :-) I was born on Halloween, so it's always been a party day for me. :-D You are right. We didn't "steal" Halloween. Samhain falls on the day before "All Saint's Day" and is mostly celebrated the same way ancient Celts did. (jack-o-lanterns, masks and costumes, etc.) It got it's modern name from the Christian holiday and the number of Irish converts who continued to celebrate it after their conversions. It is not an "evil" day, nor is it the "devil's holiday." And with the exception of falling the day before a feast day, has no significance in Christianity at all. Personally, I feel we should let the kids have their fun and quit griping about it.

I find this idea disturbing -- it makes it sound like atheists have no morals, and are just bad people living wild lives. Its true atheism implies no sin, per se, but doesn't mean anything goes to all atheists. This seems to perpetuate many negative stereotypes held by Christians that atheists are just wild, immoral people who choose not to believe in order to sin -- and that is simply false.
I think its because many of them have seen evidence against their religion or elements of it. They are lying to themselves to "keep the faith" but try not to think about it -- they don't like being reminded of that their living a lie, so they don't like the one whose integrity contrasts their denial.
ADD: I never envied atheists when I was a Christian, but I envy Christians now -- there are a lot of social advantages to being a member of the culturally dominant religion.

Actually no Christian enjoys sin. Yes we do sin but we do not enjoy it. The Holy Spirit does not let us enjoy sin. He convicts us when we sin. Atheists are sinners. Denying sin exists does not make you any less a sinner. If I deny murder exists and I kill you am I still a murderer?

You're right. When I was a fundie I envied the Atheists their confidence. I wanted that so badly, just to be normal. I didn't know how then. They had such freedom and I wanted that. They were so sure of themselves and spoke freely, holding nothing back. Now, I'm that confident person that I used to envy.

To put it plain and simple, I think Christians dislike atheism because to embrace it would mean that their belief system is wrong/flawed.
Think about it.

If you believe your little rant, then I'd like to sell you Chicago. Christians believe that all are sinners and fall short of the glory of God. The difference is we seek repentance for our sins through Christ Our Advocate and Redeemer.
