Ok I think I have an abcess tooth, it has been hurting for a week now, and my gums have a pocket above my tooth. I have doing research on the internet, about peridontal diease, and everything I have read talks about tooth decay, cavities, etc. Is it possible that I have a abcess tooth, I don't have tooth decay or any cavities? If not a abcess tooth what could it be. It is very painful and swollen, with sensitivity spreading throughout the sourrounding teeth. I have never had any teeth problems or even a toothache, and I am 21. What do you think?

I would guess it's an abscess.... call your dentist on Monday morning and ask to be seen on an emergency basis. If it is an abscess, you'll be put on antibiotics for a week to 10 days, then need to decide to either have root canal treatment done or have the tooth extracted.

Do you know for sure that you don't have any cavities? If you haven't seen a dentist in the last year, it's time to go.

Good luck to you~

When was the last time you have been to the dentist? I am not sure what you have because I don't have all the symptoms and a picture.

It may be a gum infection or something like gingivitus. Does your breath smell like rotting flesh? Is your wisdom teeth coming out?

If your wisdom teeth is coming out and your gum as been ruptured, it may be infected. If it is infected your gums will be weak and your tooth/back molars may have to be removed... so if this problem persist go see a dentist to check it up.

I'm not a dentist or any tooth specialist but if it hurts then it can't be good... especially if its been hurting for a week. The longer you wait the worse it can get. good luck
