His father (John Osteen) was a great man of God.
Joel is following in his father's footsteps.
Sad to see the bile from other Christians here.
I think it really does dishonor the cause of Christ.

Joel Olsteen is nothing more than a motivational speaker. He is far from being a minister of God's Word. I have never been able to listen to him since the first moment I heard him years ago. In Scripture, one of the signs of the end-times is man will no longer endure sound doctrine. They will only listen to those who scratch their itch ( make them feel good ) while not tending to their eternal souls. Well, Joel Olsteen is the biggest itch scratcher yet, though there are more out there. Joel took his daddy's place after he passed away. He is positive. A Christian? Not a Spirit-filled one.

Personally I cannot stand Joel Olsteen. This guy wouldn't throw a chicken bone to a homeless man.

The young man has done a great job as far as taking over for his father, but Joel needs to learn the Bible and to know God's word better. He made some very bad mistakes on a Larry King interview. When Joel gets the gospel of Jesus Christ down correctly and teaches it correctly, you will probably have one of the greatest preachers ever known.
You can make people feel good, but if you can't lead them to Jesus, then you've missed the mark. Joel will get there and be a fine preacher. This is a young man with a big church thrown in his lap. You will see the Lord bless him with sound biblical preaching, but it takes time to learn.

Joel's father initially ministered to the congregation. However, he was a traditional minister who was not interested in television broadcasting. Joel was intersted in television broadcasting as a career. Nevertheless, he assisted his father with the sound management at the church. After the death of his father, Joel felt an unexplainable calling to lead the church and expand to television broadcasting which is something is father was oppose to doing. He has been a blessing to the congregation and to all that view his broadcasts. It is just evident that when we allow God to lead us there is no limit to how he will bless us.

He is NOT. Joel attended Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma but dropped out. Joel's father, John Osteen, a former Southern Baptist pastor who became Charismatic in the late 1950s, founded Lakewood Church on Mother's Day, 1959.
After 17 years with his father producing the church's television program, Joel succeeded his father on October 3, 1999 as pastor of Lakewood Church. Joel had only preached once in his life, the week before his father's death
Sorry....but God does not have "grandchildren". Just 'cause "daddy" was a preacher....don't make you one.

Joel Osteen isn't a minister at all--only a motivational speaker. I can think of any number of laypeople here on Yahoo! Answers who by their answers demonstrate that they are clearly more qualified for ministry than that guy.

But he wears $1000 suits and $250 ties and tells you bed time stories of the nice people he sees....Now pass the plate. Tax free. Very impressive business model. Folks, he has no qualifications to preach. I guess there is a sucker born every day.
