Good Will takes any thing that is still usable and in decent condition. They also employ people who don;t have the skills for traditional jobs and teach them thru there stores. THey have folks with many degrees of handicaps learning and having gainful employment. A lot of these adults would never be able to live alone with out this training. Even those who can't live alone are given a skill and paid, which goes a long way toward self confidence. Plus support your local shops. You can make some excellent purchases there also. My youngest son furnished his apartment in part thru them .He got a great couch for $40, a swivel rocker for $15 plus tables and lamps at a low cost. Also brand new King Size bedsheets for $7instead of $57. He is a Meat Cutter required to wear black pants. He can get Dickies brand there for $3.50, at WalMart close to 30. Your support of them helps many.

American REd Cross only takes financial donations as they have no warehousing capabilities. Good will will take clothing, furniture etc, the same for Salvation Army. Habitat for Humanity takes furniture and building supplies.

If you go to the Goodwill site, it will tell you what they take and won't take. There is also a sign just outside their door that says "We can not accept..." and then they list the things. Mostly we bring clothes, but people bring other items, it's best to check before bringing anything they won't take.

If you are unsure call your local agency and ask about restrictions. Generally these services take clean clothes in good repair plus toys, books, household items such as dishes and appliances. Some larger centers take furniture.
