Don't throw stuff at it. That only scares the cat. Tempt kitty with some food. Tuna fish works pretty well. Kitty will learn to climb down soon enough. Cats are very good at figuring things out for themselves. They are smarter than we think they are.

Well, the FD doesn't do that and yes, throwing stuff at it will only scare it more (or even hurt it).
Just wait. That's all you can do. If you can entice it with a can of tuna, go for it. Many times, cats just have to learn how to climb back down and that can take some time.
Good luck.

They will usually come down on their own, when they get hungry or bored, just have patience. Tho we had an incidence where our Maine coon was chased up a tree by a big dog, and she went way up in one swoop before she stopped. She has no claws, and couldn't get down. We had to get an extension ladder and a pair of heavy gloves. (she bites). Our Abyssinian kitten got chased up a tree once, and he didn't know how to get down yet, so we had to go get him before he got to be owl food. Now he's learned how, so he can get down on his own.

The cat will come down when it's ready. It got up there on it's own and it will be able to get down.
