Skeptic, apparently you don't realize that some of every race died on Sept. 11, 2001. Do you think it was just one class or race of people?

Why do some spend time trying to prove someone they belive in?

And for the record, it would be "bass ackward" if we did such a thing. What we do is we spend our time trying get his very real followers off our backs.

Because you believe it, and they don't feel that you should. There are two types of people, those who share their beliefs and those who push their beliefs on others. The majority of people try to push their beliefs on others. Which are you? Do you spend just as much time trying to prove them wrong too?
Or do you take what they say into consideration and investigate thier claims? Or do you just ignore them? Two of these paths will lead you nowhere, the other will stengthen you.

I am an atheist. I do not have to disprove anything that hasn't been proven in the first place.

The onus is on the people that have a positive claim that something exists. I am just awaiting the evidence that support that claim. So far, I have not seen any.

However, I am a patient atheist.

friend ,i think about this a lot lately ,why would folks that profess to have no belief in god or Jesus spend so much of their precious time trying to dissuade those that do.now even the most hard core atheist surely knows that time on earth is a scarce commodity . so is altruism a natural trait of atheists that they will waste the one thing that they can't buy back on ignorant and often hardheaded Christians?
it always brings to mind a Shakespearean line ",methinks thou dost protest too much."while I'm not sure what play it comes from ,I'm pretty sure what it means. i think that a lot of our atheist friends are really wanting us to convince them that they're wrong and bring them back to the flock. so i will continue to annoy and chide and cajole them and if it takes the rest of my life and i bring back only 1 sheep to the herd...then i think Jesus will smile, and say Joe you have done well.

Well, you can't prove or disprove anything 100%, so it's a matter of probability.

They do it because the people who DO belief can act irrationally and oppressively in defense of their belief.

I agree. I always thought Madaline Murry O'hare was a bit crazy for trying so hard to prove the God she didn't believe in didn't exist.

In case you haven't thought about it, the beliefs of some effect the lives of others.

EDIT:
What the heck are you talking about? Of course I realize that.

What does that have to do with anything I mentioned?

Good question. Let's say I complained to you about my neighbor, Mr Bob, being unfair, mean and obtuse. Now, you ask me if I have talked to him about it and I say, "No! Mr. Bob doesn't exist!". At that point I become aggressive and insulting towards you for even bringing it up. What would you think? Mental illness? Paranoia? Delusions?

And they call us delusional.
