The majority of people that bought PS3's at launch and people that bought PS3's before the 80GB PS3 came out didn't buy PS3's because the PS3 had a bunch of good games out, they bought a PS3 because they know that Sony kicks out some of the best games on the market and they know that Sony makes awesome game consoles.

When I bought my PS3 back in January, I already knew that the PS3 didn't have that many good games out, but I knew that better games would be coming out sooner, and sure enough those better games came out. You should go with the PS3 because eventually Sony will once again be the console that has the best games, just like the PS2, and PS1.

The more expensive Stand alone Blu-Ray players are probably better at playing Blu-Ray DVD's because they are made specifically to play Blu-Ray DVD's and that's it. Don't get me wrong though, because the PS3 is an excellent Blu-Ray machine and plays Blu-Ray DVD's just as well. But if you have just a standard Blu-Ray player and a PS3 that both cost the same, the PS3 is the better bargain.

The PS3 is an entertainment center, a gaming console, and a Blu-Ray console all in one. But the stand alone Blu-Ray player can do nothing but play movies. The PS3 is the better bargain.

Ps3 is cheaper.

A regular blu-ray is about 800.
The cheap versions are 400.
A PS3 that has a good blu--ray is 400/500.

Also the PS3 has internet technology that the other blu-rays wont have. And you can download movie trailers (either regular movies, blu-ray movies, and out in theatres).

You might not like games for the PS3 but they also have classic games which you can buy for 5 bucks like Crash Bandicot. PS3 has a good blu-ray and at a good price

EDIT TO ADRIAN: All Ps3 games run on blu-ray so their main focus is actually on the Blu-Ray since it affects the game

I read a review of the PS3's Blu-Ray player on a website full of audiophiles and videophiles. I can't exactly remember the website, but they said that the player in the PS3 is incredibly high quality. If for no other reason, get the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player.

The PS3 is cheaper, because you can get a 40GB PS3 for $400 (it doesn't play PS2 games) and a regular blu ray player is around $600-$800.

Also, the PS3's blu ray playback is just as good as any other blu ray player.

I would get the ps3 in case, since you seem to be a standstill. It has a very high quality blu ray player, and you get spiderman 3 (blu ray)free with most of the 40 gig models. PLus, you never know, there may be a game that comes out for ps3 that you may want to get!

they have a stand alone player for the same price of the 40GB, so the decision just comes down to if you ever find a ps3 game you like
