Santeria involves animal sacrifices, a ritual and ultimately leads to someone being possessed. Voodoo do not involve sacrifices or possession. They both are not of God and should be avoided.

Voodoo (Voodun) and Santeria are not the same and have different orgins. Santeria/Lucumi/Regla de Ocha (Cuba) and Candomble (Brazil) are derived from the religion practiced by Yoruba speaking people of Nigeria. Voodun is derived from the religion practiced in Benin. They have different deities and practices. Readymay...has some of her facts wrong. Yoruba is an ethnic group in Nigeria and not a religion. Different villages had different Orishas who ruled over it. Some Orishas recognized in the Americas are not practiced in Nigeria because whole villages were enslaved and the Orisah went with them. The religion in Nigeria is referred to as Ifa, which is the form of divination. The head city in Nigeria is Ile Ifa. Lucumi is a word used in Cuba, which is believed to be a greeting used to welcome captured Africans. It's a misnomer to say that the Orishas were "hidden" behind the Santos (saints). A practitioner of Lucumi/Santeria knows that the Orishas become the Santos when a person needs assistance from one of the Santos. Voodun comes from Benin and is actually still widely practiced there!
