What an odd thing to say. Anywhere I've ever lived in Canada had sandwich bars all over.
I myself love peameal bacon on toast with mustard. My grandmother from Newfie lived on mollasses sandwiches.

BBQed bear with a slice of salmon, Canadian cheddar cheese and some gravy from the poutine I ordered as a side. That's a sandwich we Canadians all hold dear to our hearts. Geez, now I'm hungry.

many of the same as Americans.

Also...
The Montreal smoked meat sandwich is similar to a New York corned beef sandwich, but slightly different.

Some Newfoundland sandwiches (such as hot turkey or roast beef with gravy) can have "dressing" sprinkled over - a sort of cross between breadcrumbs and herbs/seasonings (not "dressing" in the Thanksgiving/stuffing sense, a different use of the word).
