It stands for Union Metallic Cartridge. It's a division of Remington. They only make a limited number of different rounds so they can keep the prices low. It's great ammo, you just won't find as many different bullet weights per caliber, etc. as you will with Remington ammo.

I bought a case of 250 rounds of UMC, and it's been good to me. Ran some through different pistols and carbines, not a single malfunction, no feeding problems. It's about the best ammunition for anything not too serious. For long range shooting, I can't imagine it'd be bad, but there would be some that are better, but of course those would cost much more, as well.

I use the UMC .223 and .308 for my AR 15s at the range.Good paper punching ammo.I have never had any problems and have shot well over 7000 rounds over the past year.It is a little dirty but good overall plus you can't beat the price

think of it as Remingtons bargain ammo. It is made by Union Metallic Cartridge, which is owned by Remington. It's just like the "USA" brand from Winchester.

No, they are not loaded with the same care as premium ammo, but they are a good all purpose ammo.
