No, you should not have sex while experiencing a UTI. It is an infection and could get worse. Sometimes UTI's are caused from sex due to germs and not cleaning properly. One way to avoid this, is by urinating after sex and also proper cleaning. If you are not able to cure it through cranberry juice and drinking lots of water, you should see your doctor and get some antibiotics. If a UTI is left untreated, it could eventually cause damage to your kidneys. There is an OTC medicine, but it will only help for the pain, it will not cure the infection. It is called Pyridian and it will turn your urine quite orange. If you don't get treatment, the infection could get worse. I know of cases where the infection was not treated and the person actually starting urinating blood.

It can definately be irritated by normal sex.
Cranberry juice and LOTS of water are your best options for getting rid of it OTC but... the best medication is prescribed by a doctor and SOOO worth it. It turns your pee orange but stops the pain and the need to go within an hour.
Make sure you pee after you have sex (really) and wear loose underwear to prevent future infections.

A Urinary Track Infection is generally not a sexually transmittable disease. BUT, infections can be communicable if the recipient has a lesion and can "catch" the bacteria causing the infection. Also, some health professionals will downplay the cause of the infection and you may need to find other ways of sexual satisfaction that will not irritate yourself. Give it a rest. If your partner cares, they will be patient and supportive.
The juice may assist with your symptoms and help prevent side effects of the antibiotic, but there is, unfortunately, no "holistic" way around it.

Sure there are. Try AZO or Uristat. You will notice in the active ingredients section on the box that the medicine used on both is Phenazopyridine but I believe it's 75mg. If you were to go see a doctor he will prescribe Pyridium, which is the brand name for pyridium, but either 100mg or 200mg and most likely Bactrim which is an antibiotic to take adjunct to the Pyridium (phenazopyridine). You are a doing a great job by taking cranberry juice, but I will suggest taking either one of those two medicines. Go talk to a pharmacist and ask him/her regarding the information on this message. Best of luck. Now, regarding you having sex while on it, I would wait.

You should not have any sex until your uti is treated and gone. Yes, it's bad because it adds more bacteria to an area already infected. You're safe oral for him, not you. I think they have an OTC , I can't recall the name. Call a Pharmacy in the morning they can tell you. I thing it's AZO???

You need to go to a doctor to get an antibiotic. It is possible for it to clear up by itself but if it goes untreated and gets worse it could spread to your kidneys. I don't think you can spread a UTI but I would avoid sex until it's cleared. It's possible to get a UTI from sex because your partner could have bacteria on their genitals or in their mouth and then it's passed into your body. Drink lots of water and avoid sugary drinks because it could exacerbate any pain or discomfort you have. But until you can get to a doctor you can go to the drug store and pick up some UTI pain reliever usually found in the aisle with feminie products.

To be safe ask a doctor before you have any sexual activity. If you are going 2 have sex then be protected so no other infections or bacteria can go in you.
Maybe you need some antibiotics perscribed. They treat most successfuly. Keep using home remedy but juices can be high in sugar.

Urinary tract infection - (for the person that asked)
It would not be comfortable to have more sex, I would say to let it get better before you make it worse. Time makes it better but I always go to the Dr. because they can help make it go away quicker..have you given any thought to how you got this? You know that you could get rid of it, have sex and it might come right back...right?
