About 8 months ago, I really got into lifting. My first questions is, does genetics really make a difference?

I came across a set of hexagon dumbbells and I use them along with my smith press machine for benching. The smith press machine I use does not provide ANY assistance at all except for propor form to prevent cheating/bad technique. Does this work the muscles the same way that a normal bench would?

Any my third question is: Has anyone ever followed any of the routines from the HARDCORE BODYBUILDING: A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH? I just finished the elite program from this book for the second month in a row and I am looking forward to using the extreme body building program from Bill Pearl's "GETTING STRONGER" book......Has anyone ever followed this?

Sorry it was so long.

if you are talking about achieving the mass and muscularity of heavy weight IFBB pro's then the odds are against you. only a fraction of a percentage of the world's population has the genetic profile to achieve such results even with abusing steroids.

however everyone has the potential to make drastic changes in their bodies from the combination of diet and high intensity resistance training. the diet holds most people back as that takes the most effort. a male new to resistance training between the ages of 16-25 can easily gain 40 lbs of muscle the first 2 years with the right diet and training program.
