I have listed a few anti virus and a few anti spyware programs that are available for download and are completely free: I will not get involved with the rights and wrongs of each package or its effectiveness or indeed “This is best” or “This is crap” statements. Whatever you do, just make sure you have one of each type installed, updated and fully working:

Anti Virus

Norton Anti-virus is the combined most user friendly and the most effective. ONLY THE ANTI-VIRUS. Sales people will usually talk you up to the extra crap. That crap will kill your computer. Get straight Norton Anti-Virus for $39.99 and you'll be all set.

However, you're probably asking this question because your computer is running slow and you have pop-ups?

I would recommend SpySweeper. Why? Viruses are usually stopped from getting in the PC with NORMAL window's updates. SO... if you do the critical updates and you're still having a problem, your issue is likely to be Spyware and Malware.

www.webroot.com and Download SpySweeper for like $30 for a year.

Best thing out there, I've used it on probably over 100 PC's by now.

Many will argue the point, but McAfee has always done the best at head to head competition that are held each year. All programs have their strengths and weaknesses.
