Its nothing unusual
Remember all those footy fans that got crushed to death (caused by the police i might add)
They and the poor families and people actually suffering got peanuts while lots of officers cashed in with massive claims because they happened to be the other side of a fence and were to "traumatised" to go back to work

Absolutely sickening!!!

It is ludicrous, but it's not only here. I just saw today that at least 2 Americans who volunteered to join the RAF during WWII - when we stupidly held on to the neutrality idea - and who later went back to the USAF after Pearl Harbour, are now not receiving any assistance (i.e. pension, medical, etc) from either the US or the UK: the UK because they are American citizens, and the US because they went against American policy at the time. Of course, the Athenian gent who joined the RAF via NYC was given citizenship in a day (in London) and later went on to become a colonel. Go figure.

The sum of £57,000 is a trifling sum. The young soldier who lost both his legs for defending us, is going to need our help for the rest of his life. He needs a sum approaching £1million in order to survive a good life. This could easily be invested in income bonds which would produce an immediate monthly income for life without ever having to touch the capital sum.

If the £57,000 were invest in Income Bonds at the Post Office it would yield an income of about 4.5% of it's total value. In other words, nothing much and probably less than £3,000 pa after tax.

I'm tired and sick of our government and the politicians at Westminster who do nothing for our brave soliders. They make me sick.

Perhaps we should start electing ex-squaddies to power.

How about that? Any soldier returning to civilian life after service in a war zone, will be entitled to stand for election just like anyone else.

Go for it!

One is a soldier who signs up to serve his country and accepts all the risks and signs as part of his joining papers a clause that he will not sue "Her Majesty's Government" for loss of limbs or personal injury while in service.

The other is a CIVIL servant who is not a member of the military and covered under a different law, called the "Health & Safety Act"

It sucks but thats the way it is.

Totally stupid. She probably got her payout due to the compensation culture that exists today, whereas he was a fighting soldier, whose job included risk.
Absolutely incomprehensible.

Your country isnt th eonly "mental" country in the west, we have similar **** going on here in the US. I agree its retarded. Same **** happens in even my ancestrial country, Egypt. I guess certain people in certain careers and positions just dont respect the military too much, in any culture? :\
